The design of the MacBook Air has been called sharp and edgy, but it's likely most users don't want it quite this edgy.  Users at a German Apple forum (apfeltalk) have posted a thread on just how edgy the Air is.Based on the thread (and the hard to understand translation), it seems as though the user managed to cut his elbow with the sharp edge of his MacBook Air (as pictured above).  Of course, that cut could have been made in any number of ways, so perhaps the post is just warming up the Web for a high-priced lawsuit.Meanwhile, another post in the same forum shows another user reportedly cutting bread with his MacBook Air.  This one is a lot more suspicious, as the user could... Hewett Packard must have IBM envy. They've purchased Ross Perot's old technology services company, Electronic Data Systems,  for $13.2 billion, so they can claim to be the second place provider of such services to businesses and government, behind IBM.  As usual, the first rule of Takeover Club is: you're fired. It's a field dominated by IBM, which generated $54 billion in revenue from technology services last year. HP's technology services revenue will more than double to more than $38 billion with the addition of EDS, which had $22 billion in revenue last year.To make sure the EDS takeover pays off, HP indicated it will make significant layoffs as it eliminates overlapping jobs and... It is hard to believe that it has been almost two full years since NVIDIA released a new flagship chipset for the AMD platform.  Since the nForce 590i SLI's official release in May of 2006, NVIDIA has introduced a handful of mid-range and more affordable chipsets for AMD processors, but the 590i SLI was it at the high-end, despite AMD's release of new quad-core Phenom processors and competing 7-series chipsets.Early this year while NVIDIA outlined their plans to mix things up at the high-end of their AMD chipset line-up with the IGP-equipped nForce 780a SLI, but it has taken quite a bit of time to bring that product to market.  Today though, we present to you three nForce 780a SLI-based... Those of us who try to make excuses for not jogging or working out at the gym because we "are always active during the day" will either be proved or disproved by the Seiko SlimStick.  More than just a pedometer, it keeps track of your every movement and determines exactly how many calories are burned. The exercise monitor is about the size of a pack of gum and utilizes dual-axis accelerometers to track the magnitude of your movements. The SlimStick counts burned calories, the amount of time you were active for, and the number of steps walked.  All of this data will be processed to create an overall exercise quality score, allowing you to compare and analyze different days.  The... Let's all hope Iran doesn't read this article, since we know a) they are trolling for F-14 parts, b) this report found some on eBay!Night-vision cameras and camouflage gear are probably available at your local Wal-Mart. But congressional leaders on Thursday voiced dismay at reports that "sensitive" military-issue equipment is being resold, potentially to terrorists, at Web sites like eBay and Craigslist and suggested new laws are necessary to ban that practice.Among the dozen items that mostly "undercover" government investigators purchased during a yearlong investigation of those two leading sites were F-14 fighter jet antennas (only Iran currently operates F-14s, the committee noted), night... Last week, NVIDIA formally launched the dual-GPU powered GeForce 9800 GX2 graphics card and nForce 790i SLI Ultra chipset.  We evaluated both products in our coverage of the launch, but had to leave out one important detail per NVIDIA's embargo agreement - that being Quad-SLI.  The embargo has since lifted, however, and today we take a look at 2008's version of Quad-SLI technology with a pair of retail-ready graphics cards from ASUS, the EN9800GX2.  Head on over to the site for the full scoop...NVIDIA Quad-SLI with the ASUS EN9800GX2... Last week, NVIDIA formally launched the dual-GPU powered GeForce 9800 GX2 graphics card and nForce 790i SLI Ultra chipset.  We evaluated both of the products in depth in our coverage of the launch, but had to leave out one important detail per NVIDIA's embargo agreement - that being Quad-SLI.It wasn't that Quad-SLI needed some more time in the oven, however.  In fact, we had the drivers in hand to do Quad-SLI testing well before last week's launch.  The delay in GeForce 9800 GX2 Quad-SLI coverage was simply due to a timing issue and commitments NVIDIA had made with a few of their OEM customers, who will likely be announcing Quad-SLI powered system sometime today. ... We've been excited about hybrid SLI technology since we first heard about it.  Of course new technologies are always plagued by delays, and hybrid SLI is no exception:“NVIDIA representatives notified its board partners this week that its new Hybrid SLI technology has been delayed. NVIDIA's Hybrid SLI technology offers an innovative new method to improve power management and performance. However, motherboard vendors will have to wait to implement the new NVIDIA feature.”We'll keep you informed as the situation develops, but at present NVIDIA partners are claiming that they're expecting the situation to be resolved in before the end of April.... There is no official report from AMD on the wires, but multiple news outlets are reporting that chipmaker AMD will show 5 percent of its workforce the door. AMD is slated to begin shipping quad-core Phenom 9850, 9750, 9650, 9550, and 9150 processors in the coming weeks, according to sources close to the company. The "50" branding scheme indicates that the processors are the B3 version of the Phenom that fixes the "TLB" bug. This was first reported in DigiTimes.Later, AMD will also ship updated triple-core processors, including the 8750 and 8560. Updated triple-core processors will not necessarily be B3 versions, however, according to sources.Maybe more importantly, AMD is in the midst of handing... Read more...
NVIDIA has finally taken the wraps of their latest desktop chipset, the nForce 790i SLI Ultra, and a brand new flagship graphics card dubbed the GeForce 9800 GX2.  We've taken a look at a pair of motherboards, one from ASUS and the other from EVGA, built around the new nForce 790i SLI Ultra chipset and have tested the dual-GPU powered GeForce 9800 GX2 as well.  Here's a snip from the piece... "A new desktop chipset complete with a DDR3-based memory controller is here, along with a dual-GPU powered monolith of a graphics card that is NVIDIA's most powerful to date.  Together, the combination of a GeForce 9800 GX2 (or two GX2s) with the nForce 790i SLI Ultra chipset redefine the... Way back in late 2006, NVIDIA simultaneously unveiled a new flagship GPU and desktop chipset that became the foundation of what NVIDIA was calling the "ultimate gaming platform".  At the time, the combination of a pair of GeForce 8800 GTX graphics cards and an nForce 680i SLI-based motherboard was clearly the most powerful hardware combo available for gamers.  And here we are, nearly a year and a half later in early 2008, and still that combo is tough to beat; truly a testament to NVIDIA's engineering abilities and execution.Since the introduction of that version of NVIDIA's ultimate gaming platform, the company's product stack has changed quite a bit.  New GPUs have hit the... We’ve just posted a new article here at HotHardware in which we evaluate the design, build quality and performance of Maingear's Ephex high performance gaming system configured with 3-Way SLI technology from NVIDIA.  We were introduced to Maingear in the process of NVIDIA's 3-Way SLI launch, when NVIDIA had the company configure us a system to test and evaluate 3-Way SLI technology in general.  Obviously, NVIDIA felt Maingear's Ephex system build was high quality enough to send out to the press on behalf of their new 3-Way SLI technology.  So the question is, beyond 3-Way SLI, does Maingear's Ephex live up to customer expectations of a super high-end gaming system as whole? ... For many of you, Maingear Computer may not be a household name and that would probably be just fine with the folks out at the shop in Union New Jersey.  Loosely classified as a specialty high performance system builder and retailer, Maingear's mission statement on style, performance and quality claims that they strive to not just provide customers with a computer but rather with a "way of life".  That's certainly fitting because the target demographic for the type of machines Maingear builds, probably sees high performance computing as a way of life as well.  In short, Maingear has a tall order to fill catering to the computing enthusiast, but you all knew that we suspect. ...
