Meet George Jetson! Oh, wait, perhaps not. The Terrafugia Transition is called a "roadable aircraft" by the company emphasizing it's more agile in the air than on the ground. At least, it is supposed to be, and a maiden flight test showed that indeed it is. While many will call this a flying airplane, Terrafugia is quite clear in their FAQ.  Perfect for trips between 100 and 500 miles, the Transition is not designed to replace anyone's automobile. Air-wise, where the Transition is more at home, it has a range of 450 miles, with a top speed of 115 mph.  You can stop into any Chevron or Shell for a fill-up: it uses standard unleaded automotive gasoline. It's also as big (or rather, bigger)... It has often been said that patience is a virtue. Patience can also be profitable. For the last 10 years or so, ZPower--a battery technology company in California--has been been busy toiling away on a silver-zinc rechargeable technology that aims to replace the lithium-ion battery technology that is so ubiquitous of late in portable products:"ZPower's efforts are based on existing silver zinc technology, offering greater power density (essentially, how much electricity a battery can hold) than lithium ion, thus requiring fewer recharges before becoming useless. The battery will hold a charge about 40 percent longer than the normal four-hour period."Getting laptops to regularly last past four... Read more...

Getting that perfect picture has always been a problem.  There are books and courses dedicated to the art of taking one, but what if you don't have time for all that?  Some cameras detect smiles and wait to take pictures until the time is perfect, other cameras take a few photos then run a quick facial recognition routine on them to determine which one had the most smiles.  But compared to those techniques, Sony's Happy Face technology certainly seems the most impressive, at least on paper. The idea behind the Happy Face technology is simple: The camera can take existing photos and retouch them so that the subject(s) appear to be smiling.  Think of it as a sort of automated... It is no secret that Advanced Micro Devices hasn't had the best couple of quarters, but they seem to have a very deep strategy for getting back in black.  Obviously that strategy includes excellent new products such as the Radeon HD 3000 series and the Phenom CPUs and chipsets, but that's only part of the picture.Apparently AMD has entered into a deal with Russian tech firm Angstrem to provide them with the technology and know-how necessary to fabricate chips using the now 'old' 130 nm process.“On November 22nd at a press conference Pierre Brunswick, AMD Sales and Marketing Vice President in Russia, disclosed some of the company's plans regarding the equipment and technology supply to Zelenograd... If watching all 3 “Back To The Future” movies was supposed to teach us anything, it's that people shouldn't tinker with time.  Nor should anyone modify DMC-12s without serious contemplation of the consequences, but perhaps attempting to treat time like a toy was perhaps the more serious message.Apparently nobody got this message out to the good people in the U.S. Congress, and their 2005 change to the daylight savings system has caused all kinds of havoc.  Thankfully nothing along the lines of Armageddon-esque/Y2K-horror story events seem to have happened, but rather plenty of small things seem to have gone wrong.  Here are a few interesting stories about such events:“At least...
