Microsoft is scheduled to hold its annual Surface hardware event on September 22nd, and multiple products are expected to debut at that time. One of the headliners will undoubtedly be the Surface Pro 8, which received an early reveal today courtesy of @Shadow_Leak via Twitter. According to the tweet, the Surface Pro 8 will use Intel's current 11th generation Tiger Lake-based processors rather than the incoming 12th generation Alder Lake family. That is to be expected considering that Intel won't officially announce its full Alder Lake processor lineup until late October. Also on deck is an all-new 13-inch display that doubles the refresh rate to 120Hz. This would put the Surface Pro 8 on even... Read more...
A lot can happen as a system is under development, especially with a relatively new family of hardware. Maybe the drivers and BIOS aren't quite tuned for the best possible performance or power efficiency, and sometimes early reviews aren't completely indicative of what a user will experience when they first purchase a laptop, even a new one that's just hitting the market. That's the case with Dell's Latitude 7320 Detachable PC, a speedy tablet hybrid that makes the current lineup of Surface Pro 7s look seriously outdated. When we first published our review of the Latitude 7320 Detachable, Dell had just announced the system and told us early on that they didn't think the battery life would necessarily... Read more...
We're suckers for intriguing single-board PCs here at HotHardware, and a new entry just scurried past our news desk. Built by Commell,  the LE-370 draws attention due to the amount of power it offers and the features that it packs into a relatively small footprint. For starters, the LE-370 forgoes a miserly Arm-based processor like competitors from Raspberry Pi and instead uses an 11th generation Intel Tiger Lake processor. In this case, we're looking at a 4-core/8-thread Core i7-1185G7E processor with Iris Xe graphics, although you can opt for a less potent dual-core Celeron 6305E if outright performance isn't your immediate goal. That processor can be paired with up to 32GB DDR4-3200 memory... Read more...
Intel teased its upcoming "Beast Canyon" NUC 11 Extreme system late last month at virtual Computex 2021. It should be an exciting entry for gamers looking to tap "extreme" performance in a small form factor chassis. Unfortunately, the company was relatively light on details, only confirming that it would be available with 11th generation Core i5/i7/i9 processors and support full-length graphics cards (including the latest GeForce and Radeon cards from NVIDIA and AMD). Now, thanks to a fresh leak, we're getting a look inside Beast Canyon and learning about at least one available processor option. Beast Canyon uses Intel's proprietary Compute Element card that features major components like the... Read more...
Laptops have never really been a go-to model when it comes to upgrades. While some high-end gaming laptops allow you to swap out the memory, processor, and even GPU in some cases, most thin-and-light laptops are designed so that upgrades are extremely difficult or impossible once you get it in your hands. Framework, a U.S. startup based in California, is looking to change that perception with its fully upgradeable Windows 10 laptop. The Framework Laptop has a 13.5-inch display with a resolution of 2256x1504 and 11th generation Intel Tiger Lake processors. And most importantly, the bulk of the external/internal hardware is user-replaceable/upgradeable. When it comes to the exterior, the screen... Read more...

Now, Lenovo is releasing an update to the Lenovo Legion lineup with the 5i, 5i Pro, and 7i powered by 11th gen Intel Core H-Series Processors and up to an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080. Legion 5i 15” And 17” The 5i series of devices from Lenovo has a similar configuration save for a few differences, but let us first take a walk around the chassis. The Legion 5i features a nice matte Phantom Blue or Stingray White body, likely made from a polycarbonate ABS... Read more...
If you've had your eyes on the GPD Win 3 handheld gaming PC ever since it was first unveiled back in November 2020, we've got some good news for you. The portable gaming device is now available for preorder on Amazon, with an estimated release date of June 2nd. The GPD Win 3 has captured so much attention due to its small form-factor, which looks like a cross between a Nintendo Switch and an old Sony Vaio UX UMPC. Perhaps the most intriguing thing about the device is its 5.5-inch display, which slides upward to reveal a dainty backlit QWERTY keyboard for input. The integrated hardware keyboard allows you to input text on the go without the need for an on-screen keyboard (which would be cumbersome... Read more...
As we said last week, Amazon is the gift that keeps on giving when it comes to unreleased 11th generation Tiger Lake-H-based laptops, especially those coming from ASUS. On Friday, we saw the TUF Gaming F17, and today brings our first look at the TUF Gaming Dash F15. While previous leaks have shown off high-performance members of the Tiger Lake-H family, the TUF Gaming Dash F15 uses an entry-level Core i5-11300H processor. According to Intel, the Core i5-11300H is a quad-core, 8-thread processor with a base clock of 3.1GHz and a turbo clock of 4.4GHz. It supports a maximum of 64GB DDR4-3200 or LPDDR4x-4267 memory. Also integrated into the processor is an Iris Xe GPU clocked at 1.3GHz with 80 EUs.... Read more...
Late last week, specs for the Surface Laptop 4 leaked along with a presumed launch date of April 27th. While the specs revealed matched with the leaks, Microsoft officially launched the Surface Laptop 4 today, two weeks earlier than earlier rumored. As we previously discussed, this is primarily an internal hardware refresh, meaning that the basic design of the Surface Laptop 3 carries over to its successor. Like before, the Surface Laptop 3 is available with a 13.5- or 15-inch display with resolutions of 2256x1504 and 2496x1664, respectively. Microsoft has gone with 11th generation Core i5-1135G7 and Core i7-1185G7 Tiger Lake processors on the Intel front with this refresh. If you prefer "Team... Read more...
We've always been big fans of the XPS 13 line of mobile devices (in both laptop and 2-in-1 form-factors), and now Dell is stepping up its game when it comes to displays. The XPS 13 was last refreshed in early 2020, and with that design switch-up came a shift to a 13.4-inch IPS 16:10 display panel available in 1920x1200 or 3840x2400 resolutions. Now, Dell is adding another display to the options sheet, and it's a beauty: a 13.4-inch Infinity Edge OLED touch panel with a resolution of 3456x2160. The company promises 100 percent coverage of the DCI-P3 color gamut, 400-nit brightness rating, and a 100,000:1 contrast ratio to deliver inky blacks and "true-to-life color" in just about any scenario.... ASUS has a new laptop on the way, and it is shaping up to be an exciting entry in the company's gaming hardware portfolio. An incomplete listing for the ROG Zephyrus M16 was spotted over at Amazon China, and it is rocking Intel's still unofficially launched Tiger Lake-H processors. The ROG Zephyrus M16 will come with a 16-inch 16:10 display and a 94 percent screen-to-body ratio. Two resolutions are offered, with base systems getting a 1920x1200 (WUXGA) display, while the next step up is a 2560x1600 (WQXGA) -- both with a 144Hz refresh rate and Adaptive Sync. The flagship display option will be a 2560x1600 panel with a 165Hz refresh rate. To keep those displays happy, enthusiasts will reportedly... Read more...
Lenovo's flagship ThinkPad X1 lineup has historically been one of our favorite business-class laptop product lines. Lenovo made a quick transition recently, and upgraded this popular laptop series with Intel's 11th Gen Tiger Lake processors that roared onto the scene with a nice performance lift and useful platform updates late last year. Besides the platform upgrade though, Lenovo also pulled a proverbial rabbit out of its hat when it dropped Tiger Lake into the thin and light 1.99lb ThinkPad X1 Nano. The performance-per-pound ratio of this machine should prove impressive and make for a solid, highly portable combination for business professionals or casual mainstream laptop users alike. Though... In the Intel world, all the attention is focused on the newly released Rocket Lake-S family on the desktop side and the incoming 11th generation Tiger Lake-H processors for the gaming laptop market. However, Intel apparently has another crop of processors on the way that has flown under the radar until this weekend. Frequent leaker @momomo_us claims that Intel's Tiger Lake-U mobile processor family will get a refresh with at least two new SKUs. At the top of the stock will allegedly be the Core i7-1195G7, with is assumed to have a base clock of 2.9GHz and a maximum turbo clock of 4.8GHz. Unlike the incoming Tiger Lake-H family that will be available in 6-core and 8-core configurations, the Core... Read more...
As time goes on, more laptops built around Intel's Evo platform are emerging, bringing with them a combination of specifications and features that meet or exceed specific baseline criteria for performance, battery life, connectivity, and a few other bits. These common threads weave through Intel's Tiger Lake silicon with Xe graphics, which are key cogs in the Evo machine. HP's latest refresh of its Spectre X360 13 for 2021 is one of those laptops, blending luxury styling with Intel's newest generation CPUs and graphics, and the result is an absolutely gorgeous convertible with plenty of zip. The gas mileage is decent on this convertible as well, which is something we'll talk about a little later.... Read more...
Late last year, the HP Envy x360 13” convertible received an Intel Tiger Lake brain transplant which gave the lineup a nice performance boost. Now, that device's bigger brother, the Envy x360 15, is getting the same treatment and more with both Tiger Lake and AMD Ryzen 5000U options. Furthermore, some other nice-to-have upgrades make this a rather formidable laptop, especially at its retail price. On the AMD side of the table, HP offers two SKUs powered by either the Ryzen 5 5500U or the Ryzen 7 5700U Zen 3 processors, with boost clocks of up to 4.0GHz and 4.3GHz, respectively. As for Team Blue, there are options for 11th generation Core i5-1135G7 or an i7-1165G7 Tiger Lake processors... Read more...
Samsung has a couple of new laptops rolling out soon, and we're getting our first look at them today. According to this leaked information, the machines are called the Galaxy Book Pro and Galaxy Book Pro 360 -- both devices will be available with either a 13-inch or 15-inch display. The leak comes from none other than Evan Blass, who is well known to the enthusiast community for his exclusive leaks on unreleased mobile devices. The Galaxy Book Pro will be available with 11th generation Intel Core i3, i5, and i7 Tiger Lake processors with integrated 12th generation Iris Xe graphics. The 15-inch model, however, will have optional support for the NVIDIA MX450 discrete GPU. The... Read more...
Intel has been teasing its upcoming Tiger Lake-H family of laptop processors ever since CES 2021, and the company is inching closer to an official launch. Intel was on hand at the GDC 2021 Showcase, where it demoed an 8-core, 16-thread Tiger Lake-H processor running at up to 5GHz across "multiple cores." During the demo (skip to the 18-minute mark in the video below), Intel made it a point to focus on the fact that the processor provides 20 PCIe 4.0 lanes, giving laptops the ability to fully support the latest GeForce RTX 30 Series mobile GPUs along with ultra-fast PCIe 4.0 SSDs. Intel is citing this as a significant advantage over AMD's Ryzen 5000 family of Zen 3 mobile... Read more...
Intel has an interesting thing going with its Next Unit of Computing (NUC) lineup. In our NUC 9 Extreme Ghost Canyon review, we found the miniature PC to be a pint-sized powerhouse, which can be configured with up to an 8-core/16-thread Core i9-9980HK processor (as was in the model we tested). Looking ahead to what's next, a leaked slide purportedly reveals details about Intel's upcoming NUC 11 Extreme Compute Element. The Compute Element is what drives the modern NUC experience. It looks like a graphics card, but is actually a removable add-in card that houses the processor, memory, chipset, I/O, and cooler, which then installs into a NUC chassis. The modular nature is intended to make future... Read more...
An unreleased Samsung laptop has found its way to Geekbench, though that alone is not the interesting part. What is interesting, however, is the hardware inside. The unreleased laptop is sporting an Intel Core i5-11400H processor paired up with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 graphics chip. Neither of those parts officially exist (yet). Let's start with the CPU. According to the benchmark listing, the 11th Gen Core i5-11400H is a 6-core/12-thread processor with a 2.7GHz base clock and 4.5GHz turbo frequency. It also features 12MB of L3 cache, and of course is based on Intel's Tiger Lake architecture. It is expected to arrive around the middle of this year when Intel launches its Tiger Lake H45 lineup.... Last weekend, we brought you some new information on Tiger Lake-H45 processors on the way from Intel. These mobile processors feature a maximum TDP of 45 watts, allowing them to hit higher clock speeds and offer more core/threads than their Tiger Lake-U and Tiger Lake-H35 counterparts. We've now come across specs for three Tiger Lake-H45 SKUs this time, and the clock speeds differ quite a bit from previous leaks. The information comes from DT Research (via momomo_us), which has updated its product page for the LT375 Rugged Mobile Workstation. It seems like a typical MIL-STD-810H machine with a 17-inch display (up to 4K resolution), dual SSD slots, dual RAM slots (up to 64GB supported),... Read more...
Lenovo has just announced a thorough redesign of several of its popular laptop families, including the ThinkPad X13/X13 i laptops and ThinkPad X13 Yoga 2-in-1 convertible. All the machines have been completely redesigned with new 16:10 displays, which seems to be all the rage these days for consumers that want to be more productive (the competing Dell XPS 13 family has also gone with the 16:10 aspect ratio). The display measures 13.3 inches diagonally with up to a WQXGA resolution and includes Low Blue Light technology to reduce eye strain. Customers will be able to choose from 11th generation Intel Core vPro processors (ThinkPad X13 i) or AMD's latest Zen 3-based Ryzen 5000 mobile processors... Read more...
When Intel announced its higher-performance Tiger Lake notebook CPUs with a 35 Watt TDP, the company proclaimed that it had snatched the single-threaded performance crown back from AMD. While Intel compared its new offerings to Ryzen 4000 CPUs based on the Zen 2 architecture, the new Core i7-11375H still surpassed its own predecessors as well according to internal benchmarks. However, these new 11th generation Intel Core CPUs still only featured four cores and eight threads thanks to Hyper Threading. That's still half of what AMD had already announced in the new Ryzen 5000 series of notebook processors, so at the time Intel was ceding the multi-threaded crown to AMD. That, however, is about...
