Intel's Tiger Lake mobile platform came out of the gate swinging, with excellent performance and improved power efficiency. The early Core i7-1185G7 development platform we evaluated set several mobile processor records in our benchmarks, and retail notebooks were just as strong when they arrived. So far we've reviewed two such notebooks from ASUS and Dell, but both of those targeted the 2-in-1 segment and commanded a bit of premium as a result, due to their smaller sizes and expanded feature sets. For folks who don't mind (or rather, prefer) the traditional clamshell form factor, and would like to save a couple hundred bucks, MSI has a solution in its new Prestige 14 EVO laptop.  MSI's... Intel has quietly introduced a boatload of 11th Gen NUC products (NUC 11 series) with Tiger Lake processors inside. There are 44 new models in all, spread across Intel's Pro, Performance, and Enthusiast spectrum. We are not going to cover all 44 NUC systems in detail, though we do want to highlight the NUC 11 Enthusiast mini PC, because of its graphics. Codenamed Panther Canyon (as previously leaked), the NUC 11 Enthusiast combines a quad-core 11th Generation Core i7-1165G7 Tiger Lake processor with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 GPU. Sure, the graphics chip is based on NVIDIA's previous generation Turing architecture rather than Ampere, but it is an enticing combination nonetheless. The appeal here... Read more...
Yesterday, Lenovo made some updates to its ThinkPad X1 family of laptops and convertibles by offering refreshed designs and 11th generation Intel Tiger Lake power across the board. Today, Lenovo is turning its attention to the ThinkBook family, which has four refreshed members to whet your appetite. ThinkBook Plus Gen 2 The most intriguing member of the family is no doubt the ThinkBook Plus Gen 2, which is based around Intel's Tiger Lake platform (up to a Core i7). Systems come standard with 16GB of LPDDR4x dual-channel memory and you can configure up to a 1TB PCIe 4.0 SSD for blazing fast sequential read/write speeds. Where things get interesting, however, is with the display(s).... Read more...
Hewlett-Packard is kicking off CES 2021 with a slew of new products that fall under its "Elite" brand, and they're all quite impressive. We've got everything from convertibles, to Windows 10 on Arm devices to even wireless earbuds, so sit back and smell what HP is cooking for this year. Elite Dragonfly G2 and Elite Dragonfly Max The Elite Dragonfly G2 is aimed at the business market, and serves as a high-end 2-in-1 Windows 10 convertible. Instead of the older Intel Whiskey Lake processors that we saw in the previous generation, the new G2 offering is rocking 11th generation Tiger Lake Core processors (U-Series Core i3, Core i5, and Core i7). That also means that beefed up 12th generation... Read more...
Tiny handheld PCs are not exactly a foreign concept to us here at HotHardware. Just a few weeks ago, we brought you news of the GPD Win 3, which is powered by up to an 11th generation Core i7-1165G7. That handheld gaming PC has a sliding display that reveals a QWERTY keyboard beneath, but not everyone is familiar with the GPD brand. Luckily for us, Lenovo and NEC might have the next best thing in the form of the LaVie Mini, which is an extension of the Ultra Mobile PC (UMPC) form factor from over a decade ago. The LaVie Mini has a tiny 8-inch display with a respectable resolution of 1920x1200 (WUXGA). Powering the machine is a modern Core i7-1180G7 Tiger Lake processor... Read more...
The LG Gram family laptops have long been among some of the thinnest and lightest on the market, and the entire family is getting redesigned for the new year. There are five models in this family: three traditional laptops, and two 2-in-1 convertibles. Each of the machines are powered by Intel's 11th generation Tiger Lake Core processors with integrated 12th generation Iris Xe graphics. The Core processors can be paired with either 8GB or 16GB of LPDDR4x memory, and there are two M.2 slots onboard to accommodate plenty of NVMe storage. In an interesting twist, all the new Gram laptops have 16:10 aspect ratio displays to give you more screen real estate for your daily workflow... Read more...
Lenovo always has great products, and during CES 2021 they are showing off an expanded lineup for the new year.  There are laptops for nearly any use case and monitors for at work or at home, which could be one in the same place nowadays.  Let's take a look at just some of what Lenovo has to show... IdeaPad 5i Pro 14” & 16” Lenovo is bringing performance and class into one package with the latest editions of the IdeaPad 5i series. The laptops should perform quite well with up to 11th Gen Tiger Lake Core i7 processors inside. People can also choose to use Intel Iris Xe Graphics or an NVIDIA GeForce MX450 to drive the 2.5K or 2.2K QHD IPS displays. The 5i Pro 14”... Read more...
Earlier this morning, we brought you some deals on excellent gaming laptops that complete with discrete graphics and chest-thumping 6- and 8-core processors. The cheapest entry on that last came in $849, but our next list is aimed at laptops priced at $750 or less. First up on our list is the Dell Inspiron 7000 2-in-1, which Best Buy is currently selling in both 15.6-inch and 13.3-inch configurations. The 13.3-inch model is cheaper at $649.99 and features an 11th generation (Tiger Lake) Core i5-1135G7 processor, 8GB of RAM, a 512GB SSD and a display resolution of 1920x1080. Graphics duties are of course handled by the integrated 12th generation Iris Xe graphics controller.... Read more...
As time goes on, Intel's 10-nanometer Tiger Lake processors will pounce on more laptop designs, given that it has only been a handful of weeks since the chip maker launched its latest mobile CPUs (which replace Ice Lake). Lenovo was quick out of the gate, however, and the company sent us an interesting sub-$1,000 Tiger Lake configuration from its rather plentiful 2-in-1 lineup. Specifically, the Lenovo Yoga 7i that arrived on our doorstep, and it's a flexible 14-inch convertible which is also the first to land in our lab armed with an 11th Gen Core i5-1135G7 processor in tow. Our dalliances with Intel's Tiger Lake platform up to this point have been encounters with higher end SKUs, including... Read more...
We've talked quite a bit about GPD's handheld PCs over the years, and the company's latest creation is coming closer to fruition. GPD today announced pricing for its upcoming Win 3 handheld gaming PC, which looks somewhat like a Nintendo Switch, but with vastly superior hardware at-hand to handle modern games. First off, what is the Win 3? Well, it's a Windows 10-based computer that has a 5.5-inch display. The display slides upward to reveal a backlit QWERTY keyboard, which means you won't have to lug around a Bluetooth keyboard with you on-the-go if you want to get some actual work done. This arrangement reminds us a bit of the old school Sony Vaio UX UMPCs from the early 2000s. GPD is... Read more...
Christmas is right around the corner, and if you are doing some last-minute holiday shopping (whether for someone else or yourself), there are some nice bargains out there. Who wants to pay full price? I certainly do not, and if you would rather not as well, then check out some of these hot deals on various PC hardware, including a gaming desktop. Shown above is the ABS Master Gaming PC, on sale for $949.99 at Newegg (save $150 - 14% off). It's a pretty decent rig for the money, built around an Intel 10th Generation Core i5-10400F Comet Lake processor (6 cores / 12 threads, 2.9GHz to 4.3GHz, 12MB L3 cache), NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060, and 16GB of DDR4-3000 memory. For storage, it comes equipped... Read more...
Black Friday and Cyber Monday may have come and gone, but that isn't stopping the discount train for barreling down the tracks as we approach Christmas. Such is the case with the Lenovo Yoga 7i, which is a respectable and feature-filled 2-in-1 convertible running Windows 10 Home. The 14-inch version of the Yoga 7i normally is priced at $899, which isn't at all a bad price. However, Best Buy is currently selling the device for $250 off, bringing it down to $649.99 with free shipping. That price gets you a 14-inch Full HD (1920x1080) touch display and an 11th generation Intel Core i5-1135G7 Tiger Lake processor with integrated 12th generation Iris Xe graphics. The processor is paired... Read more...
It has been a little over three months since Intel formally launched its 11th Gen Core Tiger Lake CPUs, but the market is not exactly flooded with laptops built around the chip maker's latest mobile CPUs. HP is helping to change that—it is rolling out new business-oriented EliteBook 800 G8 laptops built around Tiger Lake, and is also refreshing its ZBook Firefly mobile workstations. According to Intel, its 11th Gen Core chips are the "best processors for thin and light laptops." In our limited experiences with Tiger Lake so far—including a reference Tiger Lake laptop we benchmarked and during our Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 review—we have liked what we have seen from Intel's latest generation... About two years ago, NVIDIA started talking about a shader rendering method that applied varying levels of quality to different objects in the game world. That method was called Variable Rate Shading, or VRS. When applied skillfully and artfully in different areas of a scene that are less prominent in the gamer's field of view, the resulting rendered image quality wouldn't look all that different than if the whole scene had been fully shaded, though the graphics workload savings would improve performance significantly. Fast forward a year or so, and benchmarks became available for measuring the performance differences with and without VRS enabled. Indeed, there was performance to be... Read more...
AMD's Ryzen 4000 family of Zen 2 processors have been very well-received in the laptop market with the company securing a number of key design wins, thanks to excellent overall performance and power efficiency. And while Ryzen 4000 graphics performance won't knock your socks off, the integrated AMD Radeon Vega GPU can also handle some light gaming workloads. Needless to say, AMD's rise is coming at the expense of Intel, which has long dominated in the laptop sector. Intel has countered AMD's Ryzen 4000 family with its 11th generation Tiger Lake processors with integrated Iris Xe graphics, but even current quad-core CPU models aren't enough to tackle AMD's high-end Ryzen 4000U configurations... Intel's 10-nanometer Tiger Lake processors have one of the fastest CPU architectures available in Windows notebooks today. That's not to say they've got the fastest overall CPUs, though. There are competing mobile processors available with more cores and support for additional threads that are better suited for complex, multi-threaded tasks. It does, however, mean that right now Intel's single-threaded performance in Windows notebooks is king. It only makes sense, then, that Dell would want to bring Tiger Lake to its XPS 13 2-in-1 family as quickly as possible, because fast single-thread performance translates into a snappy, response experience, which is something everyone wants. The world's... Read more...
While it might seem a bit outside the norm, Intel is launching its very on laptop. And in a sense, this is a logical extension of the company's existing NUC family of small form-factor desktop PCs. With that, we present Intel's new NUC M15 -- developed under the codename Bishop County -- which will be offered to its channel partners to rebrand as their own laptops. The laptop itself has a 15.6-inch 1080p display along with a 73 WHr battery that is good for up to 16 hours of runtime. Powering the machine will be one of two processors: the Core i5-1135G7 (4-core/8-thread) 28W Tiger Lake processor paired with 8GB of soldered on LPDDR4x-4266 RAM. The other option will be the Core i7-1165G7 (4-core/8-thread)... Read more...
Have you ever wanted a mini PC with the form factor of a Nintendo Switch with features that were commonplace in devices from 15 years ago? GamePad Digital (GPD) could have you covered with the recently leaked GPD Win 3, a handheld Windows 10 machine powered by an Intel Tiger Lake processor. This gaming-oriented device will also have a keyboard underneath a sliding display and two control areas reminiscent of Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons. While we only have rumored details today, we hope to see some sort of proper announcement by the end of November. GPD, founded in 2013, is a company whose focus is “developing high-quality Windows mini Laptop, UMPC, and Android handheld game consoles.”... Read more...
We typically think of Razer's notebooks as being aimed at the gaming crowd, but the company has its eyes laser-focused on productivity with the new Razer Book 13. As its name implies, the Razer Book 13 has a 13-inch display (13.4 inches to be exact), but unlike most offerings in this space, it does not feature a 16:9 aspect ratio. Instead, the Razer Book 13 is boasting an aspect ratio of 16:10 with up to an UHD+ resolution touch display (an FHD+ non-touch display comes standard), putting it on an even keel with the very popular Dell XPS 13. Even better is the fact that the bezels are razor-thin all around, yet there is still room up top for a HD webcam with a 4-microphone array... Read more...
It was inevitable that Microsoft would release a Surface Pro 8, but no one expected that we would come across it in this manner. An alleged Surface Pro 8 engineering sample was sold on eBay for $1,300, and it comes with some interesting specs. Whereas the Surface Pro 7 is powered by 10th generation Ice Lake processors, this prototype is rocking Intel's latest 11th generation Tiger Lake processor (Core i7-1165G7). Not only does Tiger Lake bring some healthy gains in performance over Ice Lake, but it also supports PCIe 4.0, USB 4 and comes with a far superior Iris Xe integrated graphics engine. In this case, the Core i7-1165G7 processor is paired with a generous 32GB of DDR4-4266... Read more...
Over the summer, Intel announced its 11th generation Tiger Lake processors, which power the latest thin and light notebooks from various OEMs. In addition to bringing faster overall CPU performance compared to the preceding 10th generation Ice Lake processors, Tiger Lake also introduced the world to 12th generation Iris Xe integrated graphics (which offers a significant uptick in GPU performance). Keeping that in mind, Acer has announced a first with its new Swift 3X laptop. At first glance, the Swift 3X doesn't seem to be that remarkable of a machine. It's available with an Intel Core i5-1135G7 or Core i7-1165G7 processor, up to 16GB of LPDDR4X memory, up to a 1TB SSD, and... Read more...
Intel's 11th Gen Core Tiger Lake family of processors really impressed us in terms of is single-threaded performance gains as well as its general high level performance. It doesn't matter what the task, content creation, productivity or otherwise, 11th-generation Core processors from Intel could handle it with ease. The only problem, as we saw it, was that the newest tech was only initially available in some higher-end, high-priced systems. Dell has come to the rescue today, however, with its midrange Inspiron 14 5000 series of notebooks and 2-in-1 systems, and we think the price is just right.  Dell has a pair of Inspiron 14 5000 systems up for sale on the PC maker's own website....
