Acer Unwraps Predator Triton Gaming Laptops With NVIDIA GeForce RTX Mobile GPUs
Acer announced that its upcoming Predator Triton 500 and Predator Triton 900 gaming laptops will come equipped with NVIDIA's GeForce RTX graphics processors. In addition to the high-end hardware, these systems both have special features that help them to stand out from the competition.
We got our first look at the Acer Predator Triton 900 last year, which features a unique convertible design. The notebook's 17.3" 4K IPS display uses a specialized CNC-machined Ezel Aero hinge that connects to the center of the display on its left and right sides. The display can be set just like a normal PC, or it can be rotated and set into tablet mode.
"We are pushing the envelope on what a gaming notebook can be with designs that offer more uses while still packing in the computing power," said Jerry Hou, General Manager, Consumer Notebooks, IT Products Business at Acer. "The Predator Triton 900's one-of-a-kind flipping screen allows for multiple gaming scenarios and better ergonomics, while the Triton 500 offers superb gaming performance in a slimmer, all-metal body for gamers on the go."
The new tablet mode makes the system more versatile by offering a convenient interface for creator tools. It's probably inadvisable to run high-end games on the Predator Triton 900 while it is in table mode though, as this will cause the display to partially block the airflow going to the system's GPU.
Acer currently has plans for just one model of the Triton 900 that will come equipped with an Intel Core i7-8750H and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 graphics card. The system supports NVIDIA's G-Sync technology for a smooth mobile gaming experience, and the system also has 16GB of memory and two 512GB NVMe PCI-E SSDs in a RAID-0 configuration.

The Predator Triton 500 is smaller than its Triton 700 counterpart and it uses a lower-res 15.6" 1080p IPS panel with a fast 144Hz refresh rate. The Triton 500 also uses a more conventional design, as it doesn't feature a tablet mode or a flippable display. Models of the Triton 500 that come equipped with NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 2080 Max-Q GPU will also support G-Sync. One model that is listed with just an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 unfortunately will not support G-Sync.
Both of these new gaming systems will feature Acer's 4th Gen AeroBlade 3D metal fan thermal solution that Acer claimed increases airflow by 45 percent over competing solutions. Acer also equipped both systems with all-metal chassis, and the notebooks are relatively thin and light. The Predator Triton 500 is the thinner of the two systems at 17.9mm, and it weighs just 4.6lbs. Acer didn't disclose the weight of the Predator Triton 700, but it is 23.75mm thin.
Acer intends to release a smartphone app that it is calling PredatorSense later this year, which will make it possible for you to adjust the lights, audio, and fans on the system. The smartphone app will apparently be capable of overclocking the systems as well, though we question how wise it is to create a smartphone app to overclock your PC.
Given the high-end hardware packed into these notebooks, it should come as no surprise that they also carry exceedingly high price tags. The Acer Predator Triton 900 will start priced at $3,999 and it is set to launch in March. The Acer Predator Triton 500 is less expensive, but still rather pricey with a starting price of $1,799.
