Content creators who might not have pockets deep enough to invest in the fastest professional graphics cards on the planet now have a new, relatively affordable alternative to get the job done. AMD unveiled its newest Vega card, the Radeon Pro WX 8200, and it is available to pre-order right now for less than a grand ($999.00, to be exact).

The new workstation card is based on AMD's Vega 10 GPU architecture built on a 14-nanometer FinFET manufacturing process. It also features a dedicated AMD Secure Processor designed to carve out a virtual "secure world" in the GPU. This is where tasks dealing with intellectual properties are run, ensuring they are only exposed to trusted applications.

"Professionals can fully unleash their creativity with the ‘Vega’ architecture at the heart of the Radeon Pro WX 8200 graphics card," said Ogi Brkic, General Manager of Radeon Pro, AMD. "This powerful new workstation graphics card empowers creators to improve collaboration among remote teams with VR, create exciting new cinematic experiences and visualize their creations with ease, all at an incredible price point."

The Radeon Pro WX 8200 sports 3,584 stream processors (56 compute units) capable of delivering 10.8 teraflops of single-precision (FP32) performance, and 21.5 TFLOPs of half-precision (FP16) performance. It also wields 8GB of error correction code (ECC) HBM2 memory to ensure the accuracy of computations by correcting any single or double-bit error resulting from naturally occurring background radiation. Memory bandwidth checks in at 512 gigabytes per second.

That level of performance is not all that far behind the pricier Radeon Pro WX 9100, a higher-end workstation card that delivers 12.3 TFLOPs of FP32 and 24.6 TFLOPs of FP16 performance, but streets for around $1,500 (it debuted at $2,199). The Radeon Pro WX 8200 is basically a toned down version of the 9100, with both being based on the same GPU architecture and using the same 2048-bit memory bus (the 9100 has 16GB of memory).

The Radeon Pro WX 8200 is up for pre-order now at Newegg for $999, and will ship out to customers on September 19.
