Asus Brings N450 And Broadcom HD Decoder To Eee PC 1005PR

Just when you think you've got your head around Asus' Eee PC netbook family, another one is born. As the siblings continue to increase in number, it's getting harder and harder to keep track of which machine is which, but one thing is for sure: this new one is one of the most promising Eee PCs yet. The Eee PC 1005PR ships with Windows 7 Starter, a 10.1" HD display (1366x768), a battery that can last up to 11 hours and up to 750GB of storage space (250GB onboard + 500GB of Asus WebStorage).

This one also features the Seashell design, Bluetooth v2.1, a multi-touch trackpad, Intel's Atom N450, up to 2GB of DDR2 memory, Wi-Fi, a 0.3MP web camera, a VGA output, three USB 2.0 ports, Ethernet, a 6-cel battery and a variety of colors to choose from. What's most interesting is the graphics power. Unlike many other netbooks out today, this one has a Broadcom BCM 70015 HD decoder, which means that 720p and 1080p multimedia playback should be no issue at all. Last year's netbooks usually had a tough time handling this, so this chip should be a sight for sore eyes if you've been waiting patiently for an HD-crushing alternative.

Unfortunately Asus has yet to make clear their plans for pricing and shipping.
