AT&T To Get SE's Xperia Play On September 18 For $49.99 On Contract

Remember Sony Ericsson's Xperia Play? It's back! After one tour around the States on Verizon Wireless, the phone is being reborn for use on AT&T, and it's even shipping in an exclusive "blue" color -- perhaps to match AT&T's theme. At any rate, the phone is mostly the same otherwise, boasting a 1GHz processor, Adreno 205 GPU, a 4-inch touch panel with an 854x480 screen resolution and a slide-out gaming pad that PlayStation lovers will no doubt recognize right away.

Despite being called the Xperia Play 4G on AT&T, there's no LTE support here. Instead, it boasts HSPA+ 3G speeds -- thanks for the confusion, marketing department! Anyway, the bundle also includes a free multimedia dock and music cable, as well as seven pre-installed games. The best part, however, is the price. VZW launched this phone at the standard $200 on contract, but AT&t's version will go for just $49.99 on contract, most likely because the phone is quite 'dated' in smartphone-years.

Still, it's a very solid option for those who need to remain on AT&T for whatever reason, particularly if you place a higher value on "gaming" than "calling."
