Google Announces $379 5.2-inch Nexus 5X, $499 5.7-inch Nexus 6P Android 6.0 Marshmallow Flagships

Google today pulled the wraps off its two flagship Android 6.0 Marshmallow smartphones. Unfortunately for Google, we already know just about every possible spec for the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P, so we’ll just play along like we were none the wiser…

Starting off with the “little guy,” the LG-built Nexus 5X is the spiritual successor to 2013’s Nexus 5 and is powered by a hexa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor with 2GB of RAM and includes a 5.2-inch 1080p display. Camera duties are taken care of by a 5MP front-facing camera and a 12.3MP rear camera. Other features include a 2700 mAh battery and Nexus Imprint, which is the rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. It offers one-touch waking of your display and is fully compatible with Android Pay.

Google also announced the Nexus Sensor Hub, which uses a low-power processor to offload tasks from the main SoC. The Nexus Sensor Hub, for example, can detect when you pick up your phone and turn on the ambient display and display notifications without having to power-up the more power-hungry Snapdragon 808 SoC.

The Nexus 5X comes in Carbon Black, Sports White, and Ice Blue. It will be priced from $379 and will come unlocked (it is available for preorder today from the Google Store).

Nexus 6P

The Nexus 6P, which is built by Huawei, steps things up a few notches with a Snapdragon 810 v2.1 processor and a 5.7-inch QHD Super AMOLED display. The Nexus 6P features a slim metal unibody (constructed of aircraft-grade aluminum), front-mounted stereo speakers, and a capacious 3450 mAh battery. The battery is charged via the integrated USB-C port and can be topped off in half the time of an Apple iPhone 6S Plus thanks to Fast Charging support. Like the Nexus 5X, you’ll find a 5MP front-facing camera, 12.3MP rear camera, Nexus Imprint and the Nexus Sensor Hub.

The Nexus 6P is available in Aluminum, Frost White and Graphite colors and start at $499. Google’s new Nexus devices will come with a free 30-day subscription to Google Play Music and all pre-orders will get a $50 Google Play credit. Both the Nexus 5X and 6P device will also be compatible with Google’s Project Fi MVNO.
