Hewlett-Packed is already a pretty big name in the education sector, but the company is looking to expand its position with the release of a new convertible aimed at accident-prone students. The ProBook x360 11 G1 Education Edition is being billed as the world’s thinnest rugged convertible, and we have no reason to discount HP’s claim.

The ProBook x360 11 G1 was built to handle the worst that little tikes can dish at it thanks to its MIL-ST-810G rating, pick- and spill-resistant keyboard, Gorilla Glass 4 display covering, and industrial rubber-molded exterior which helps to absorb impact from repeated drops. In HP’s own testing, the convertible was able to survive drops from up to 30 inches on both steel and concrete surfaces without damage. Unless students are chucking the ProBook x360 11 G1 from the roof of their school (which we strongly advise against), it should be able to survive the daily rigors of student life.

HP has also made managing the ProBook x360 11 G1 easier for school IT teams, offering an RJ45 jack for easy connecting to charging carts (where updates can be applied), HP Single Sign-On, and HP Classroom Manager.

When it comes to the actual hardware specs, the ProBook x360 11 G1 has more than enough to handle students’ needs with a 1366x768 touch display, active digitizer pen (optional, and likely easily lost by students), Intel Pentium N4200 or Celeron N3350 processor, up to 8GB RAM, up to a 256GB SSD, front- and rear-facing cameras, two USB 3.0 ports, one USB-C port and up to 10 hours of battery life with its built-in 32 Whr battery. And of course, the convertible is running Windows 10.

“The education market is a strategic growth area forHP,” said Gus Schmedlen, VP of Education at HP. “We pay close attention to the unique needs of students, teachers and schools because they are enabling the next generation of inventors, leaders and future employees to go beyond note memorization and master creativity, collaboration and critical thinking.”

The ProBook x360 11 G1 Education Edition is available now to purchase in bulk for schools and school systems.
