HTC Releases Horrible Rap Video To Trash Talk Samsung, Apple

Remember when the video of a drunk David Hasselhoff eating a cheeseburger surfaced? It showed just how far the former Knight Rider and Baywatch star had fallen, though to his credit, he's since recovered from a PR standpoint. Likewise, maybe HTC can recover from a rap video it posted to YouTube in which the Android pioneer takes repeated swings at Apple and Samsung.

It's actually rather sad that it's come to this. We're all for having fun on the Internet, but this seems like a desperate attempt at regaining its former glory -- it was HTC that kicked off the Android movement with the T-Mobile G1 (HTC Dream), and in the early days, the company enjoyed plenty of success. Record breaking quarters were the norm, not the exception, though that was forever ago. These days, Samsung and Apple dominate the mobile scene, and that isn't sitting well with HTC.

HTC Rap

In the nearly two-and-a-half minute video, rapper Doc G (Greg Carr) from PM Dawn verbally assaults the competition:

More than a few clowns stole what we originated,
We own the universe, your Galaxy is overrated.
It took you copycats six times to get it right,
My One M8 is far too great, you'll never touch this light.
There's plenty more, some of it mildly amusing and much of it awkward at best. Same goes for the HTC One M8 costume that's featured prominently in the video. Take a look:

In a separate but related video, Doc G explains his affinity for HTC, noting that he's a huge fan of the company and has been using the company's devices since the G1. Have a look:

Whether or not HTC's rap video goes viral and convinces people they made a crappy choice by picking a Samsung or Apple handset over an M8 remains to be seen -- at the time of this writing, it's sitting at nearly 16,000 video views with 577 likes and 158 dislikes. Response so far have been mixed, running the gamut from "Hahaha, this was EPIC!" to "What the s**t?"
