LG To Launch Flagship Judy Phone With 6.1-Inch HDR Display And Snapdragon 845
The smartphone world never stops spinning, and there is always something new and shiny right around the corner. Or as it pertains to LG, around the block and down the road a piece. Word on the web is that LG is working on a new flagship smartphone codenamed "Judy" with an anticipated release (or announcement) coming in June. If the early information proves accurate, Judy will feature a bigger display than LG's current flagship, the G6 (an excellent we phone, we might add).

Though the LG G6 sports a 5.7-inch display with a 2880x1440 resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio, Judy's display is getting stretched out to 6.1 inches. It's not clear what the resolution will be, however, a person who has supposedly been briefed on the matter told VentureBeat that it will employ a new type of display, an MLCD+ panel with an RGBW matrix. This fancy new panel is supposed to consume 35 percent less power than a traditional IPS panel, while delivering an impressive 800 nits brightness.
That should enable longer battery life, or at least allow users to turn up the brightness a little higher than usual without watching the battery meter race towards empty. And at that brightness level, LG will once again offers high dynamic range (HDR) support. Ideally, an HDR display would be able to hit 1,000 nits or brighter, though VESA recently rolled out three different certifications for HDR, including DisplayHDR 400, DisplayHDR 600, and DisplayHDR 1000. There other metrics involved in VESA's certification, but if going by brightness alone, Judy would fall squarely between DisplayHDR 600 and DisplayHDR 1000.
You can probably guess what processor Judy will employ—none other than Qualcomm's Snapdragon 845 of course. That's the one of the fastest chips currently available for Android devices, and it wouldn't make sense for LG to go with much else for an upcoming flagship phone. The phone will also wield 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage.
For taking pictures, it's said that Judy will have dual 16-megapixel rear cameras. It's not clear what kind of camera sensor LG will use on the front of the phone, though as a point of reference, the G6 and LG V30 sport a 5-megapixel camera.
Other features include IP68 ingress protection plus military standard durability (water, dust, and impact resistant), wireless charging, voice recognition, an AI scheme for the cameras, and of course a digital assistant. On paper, it looks to be a worthy successor the G6, though LG apparently will not be dubbing this the G7.
There's no mention of price, though being a flagship, we suspect it cost north of $650.
