Mario Makes Magnificent Debut On Minecraft: Nintendo Switch Edition May 11th

Minecraft Super Mario

Some things are just meant to go together. Peanut butter and jelly, sea salt and vinegar on kettle cooked chips, Bill Belichick and Tom Brady—you get the idea. You can add to the list Minecraft, one of the most popular games of all time, and the Nintendo Switch, the new hybrid console that has a legitimate shot at becoming one of the best consoles in the history of game systems (it's already dethroned the Wii for most sales during the first two days following launch).

Minecraft for the Switch will bring 40 Super Mario themed skins to the party, including Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Bwoser, Wario, and all seven Koopalings. Gamers will also get to prance around Super Mario World, as professional Minecraft builders have remade the likeness of the Mushroom Kingdom and beyond, with Mario themed versions of The Overworld, The Nether, and The End, each of which will be available to explore.
"Explore randomly‐generated worlds and build amazing things from the simplest of homes to the grandest of castles. Play in Creative Mode with unlimited resources or mine deep into the world in Survival Mode, crafting weapons and armor to fend off dangerous mobs," Nintendo says.

Switch owners will be able to play solo or in a group of up to eight players online. There will also be a local multiplayer mode that supports up to four players on the TV or in tabletop mode, with split screen mode available. And if you own a Pro Controller, you'll be able to use that as well.

The meshing of Minecraft and Mario will bring Super Mario style textures and puzzles to the Switch, along with dozens of character skins and music from Super Mario 64. In addition to the Super Mario Mash Up, there will also be half a dozen content packs.

Nintendo is prepping a physical edition of Minecraft for the Switch for May 11, 2017 that will retail for $30. A digital version will be available at a later date.
