Meizu's Futuristic 'Zero' Port-Less Smartphone Hits Indiegogo Priced At $1,299

Last week Meizu took minimalism to the extreme with its "Zero" smartphone. The smartphone lacks any ports (that's right, there is no USB-C port) or buttons. In fact, it doesn't even have a SIM card slot, and instead relies on eSIM technology. Now, Meizu has announced that it is looking to bring the Zero to market via crowdfunding site Indiegogo.

This is really a case of less is more ($$$ wise), because the Zero is going for a hefty $1,299 on the site. To put that in perspective, that price could get you a Samsung Galaxy Note 9 with 512GB of storage or an Apple iPhone XS Max with 256GB of storage. The Meizu is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, although there are currently no details on its memory or storage configuration.

Your $1,299 outlay gets you a device with a 5.99-inch AMOLED display, an in-display fingerprint reader, 20MP front-facing selfie camera and dual rear cameras (20MP + 12MP). Given that the device doesn't have any physical buttons on the outside, the Zero makes use of haptic feedback for both the power and volume controls. The smartphone is also IP68 rated for dust and water resistance, as you might expect giving its allergy to ports

And since the Zero doesn't have a USB-C port, it relies on Qi wireless charging. The smartphone comes with its own 18W wireless fast-charging pad, which features a recess for the rear-mounted camera pod.

Meizu is looking to reach a funding goal of $100,000, and as of this writing, the company has found 13 backers with a total of $18,587 raised with 31 days left in the campaign.
