Microsoft Fans Sign Petitions To Save Andromeda Dual Screen Surface Device

However, this is Microsoft we’re talking about; which means that Andromeda could find itself on the chopping block at any moment despite promise in the mobile sector. That was the fate that befell Microsoft’s Courier dual-screen tablet concept (and the Surface Mini) and enthusiasts don’t want the same fate for Andromeda. As a result, some have taken to creating petitions to save Andromeda.

Zachary Hinski created a petition over at Change.org and is calling on others to join in. So far, 5,500 people have signed on the dotted line begging Microsoft to give Andromeda a chance in the marketplace.

"All the fans of windows phone want Microsoft to release the Surface Phone aka Surface Andromeda Phone Project that has been leaking out lately with the phone screen that can turn into a tablet," writes Hinski. "I'm doing this petition to see how many people would buy this phone if Microsoft would release it.

"Money is power and if a lot of people want a Surface phone like the ones in the leaks then they will be forced into action as everyone knows Microsoft wouldn’t be able to give a reason on why not to do it to their investors, as its too much of a money opportunity to miss."

What we've seen courtesy of third-party concept renders looks quite amazing. According to some reports, the renders look remarkably close to what Microsoft has running around in prototype form in its labs. David Breyer, who posted an initial set of Andromeda renders in December, has posted another speculative set that shows the device being used as a productivity machine in "laptop mode" and as a gaming device with a virtual Xbox One controller.

Microsoft's own internal documents describe Andromeda as a "device form factor that brings together innovative new hardware and software experiences to create a truly personal and versatile computing experience" and one that will be "new and disruptive".
