Nintendo Doubling Down On Switch Production To Meet High Demand In 2018

It goes without saying that every single year, there are a handful of products that seem to dominate headlines more than the others. During 2017, Nintendo's much-anticipated Switch would have to be near the top of the list. When it launched earlier this year, it was almost impossible to avoid chatter from those glued to Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which many have called their favorite game "ever".

Well, the hype around Switch isn't going to be dying down anytime soon - especially not in advance of the holiday season. In fact, Nintendo only sees things going up from here. To date, a total of 8 million Switch consoles have been produced, and is on track to produce 17 million through March 2018  

Nintendo has gone on record to say that if Switch sales this holiday season prove more successful than expected, then it could increase the target to 25-30 million for next year. But either way, Nintendo is confident that the Switch is quickly going to surpass the total units sold of the Wii U, which itself failed pretty hard in terms of total units sold compared to the original Wii (~14 million vs. ~101 million). To put that into further perspective, recall the fact that Nintendo has built 8 millions Switches since only this past March. We're barely beyond the nine month mark at this point.

What will of course ensure Nintendo healthy Switch success is the content, and with Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey each selling a few million copies, it really does highlight that first-party content for Nintendo platforms is really, really important.
