Nubia Gaming Phone Adopts Snapdragon 845 CPU, 8GB RAM And Wild Quad-Fan Cooling

Smartphones aimed squarely at a gaming audience are quite rare, with the most prominent example being the Razer Phone, which was released last year with a 5.7-inch 120Hz Sharp-manufactured display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor and a whopping 8GB of RAM. However, Nubia is looking to potentially one-up the Razer Phone with its own gaming smartphone.

The new Nubia smartphone is powered by the new Snapdragon 845 processor, which will be featured in all of this year's hot flagship devices. As expected, it touts 8GB of RAM and comes with a generous 128GB of internal storage (a microSD slot can further your storage if you need it). Other specs include a fingerprint reader, stereo speakers, and a 3100 mAh battery.

Unfortunately, that's where the specs dump ends for the Chinese-designed Nubia phone. Although Android Headlines, which was able to capture images of the smartphone in the wild, says that it looks to have a display that measures at least 6-inch diagonally. There's also no word on resolution, although it's said to have a tall 18:9 aspect ratio. It remains to be seen if Nubia will be adding in a 120Hz display to counter what the Razer Phone already offers.

One thing that did give us a bit of chuckle, however, is what's lurking inside the Nubia phone. At each corner, there's a tiny fan nestled within the chassis that should help keep all of the components cool (and will evidently prevent the Snapdragon 845 from throttling under intense gaming sessions). However, just the thought of fans in a smartphone seems out-of-this world, and it’s doubtful that we will see any other Snapdragon 845 flagships go this route in 2018.

The Nubia gaming phone is currently just a prototype, but we’re eager to see how it will perform in the real world. We’d also like to see how the internal fans fare against the inevitable pocket lint…
