OnePlus 2 Goes Invite-Free Indefinitely Starting December 5th

OnePlus Never Settle
The OnePlus 2 was introduced back in July, but like its predecessor, it was only available through OnePlus’ dreaded invite system. OnePlus promised to fix its inventory issues and invite system with the launch of the OnePlus 2, but unfortunately, that didn’t happen.

"We told our users it would be 30-50x easier to get invites, and they needn’t worry. Yet, we only began shipping in meaningful quantities this week, nearly a month after our initial targeted shipping date," said OnePlus in September. "You can talk all you want, but in the end, flawless execution speaks much louder than unfulfilled promises."

Luckily for those that would like to get their hands on a OnePlus 2, inventory levels have finally stabilized and the wonky invite system is being banished for good. That’s right, you’ll never have to worry about seeking an invite for this reasonably priced flagship starting December 5th.

“The invite system has been crucial to letting us scale our operations and has given our fans a unique way to share OnePlus with the people in their lives,” said OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei. “But we are always trying to enhance the OnePlus experience for you and taking risks to push ourselves and show real improvements.”

The OnePlus 2 starts at $329, which will get you an unlocked smartphone with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 v2.1 processor, 3GB RAM, 1080p display, 16GB of storage, a 13MP rear camera, and a 5MP front-facing cameras. For $389, the included RAM is boosted to 4GB while internal storage increases to 64GB.

Unfortunately, the invite system is still in place for the recently introduced, entry-level OnePlus X. However, OnePlus will give potential customers a brief reprieve from the invite system December 5th through December 7th.
