PlayStation 4 Gamers, Here's How To Change Your PSN Online ID

The Sony PS4 has been around for several years and has sold a massive number of units since launch, easily besting the Xbox One in total sales. The PS4 is nearing the end of its reign as Sony’s most advanced console, but Sony is finally getting around to launching a feature that has been oft-requested by gamers. Sony first announced that the ability to change your Online ID was coming last October.

That online ID change service is now available, and that means if gamers initially picked a silly call sign, and now want a new name you can now get one. The online ID can be changed via a web browser for those who find that faster. When the name change feature was first announced, Sony was clear that some games might not support the feature.

The name change feature was supposed to function with all games published after April 1, 2018, with games published before then showing the original online ID. Sony notes that it has found one game published on or after April 1, 2018, that doesn't support the online ID name change feature.

It also notes that not all games have been tested and others may not support the change feature; there is a list of known compatible games here. The first ID change is free, and after that, they will cost $4.99 for PlayStation Plus members and $9.99 for non-PlayStation Plus members. Those who change and miss their old online ID can go back to it at any time at no charge.

The steps to change your online ID on the PS4 are:

• Step 1: From your PS4 go to [Settings].
• Step 2: Select [Account Management] > [Account Information] > [Profile] > [Online ID].
• Step 3: Enter an Online ID of your choice or choose from one of the suggestions.
• Step 4: Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the change.

Steps for changing via a web browser are:

• Step 1: From your PS4 go to [Settings].
