Right On Time! OnePlus 2 ‘Flagship Killer’ Shipments Delayed In U.S.

The more things change, the more they stay the same. That's how the saying goes and it seems to be one that OnePlus lives by. To recap, OnePlus announced in mid-July that it was revamping its invite system so it would be easier for people to buy a OnePlus 2, the recently released "flagship killer" that runs $329 for the 16GB model and $389 for the 64GB model.

An invite system was supposed to solve the problem of demand exceeding supply. Well, that and offering up a lot more units than the company did with the original OnePlus One. The company's co-founder- Carl Pei, promised to build anywhere from 30 times to 50 times more OnePlus 2 handsets at launch than the OnePlus One during its debut, but despite the company's best efforts, customers in North America will have to wait through a shipping delay.

"The production of the OnePlus 2 is in full swing and we’re excited to get the OnePlus 2 in your hands. However we do want to tell our users in North America that due to production schedules, shipping to the States and Canada will commence 2-3 weeks after shipments to Europe," OnePlus said.

OnePlus says it's been working non-stop since launch to bring the OnePlus 2 to its fans. That would seem to indicate that OnePlus again failed to anticipate how popular its handset would be. The silver lining is that the delay won't affect the selling date -- if you have an invite code, you can still purchase the OnePlus 2 starting August 11.

OnePlus 2 Handset

It's easy to see why the OnePlus 2 is so popular. it features a 5.5-inch Full HD 1080p display, Snapdragon 810 v2.1 processor with Adreno 430 graphics, 3GB (16GB storage model) or 4GB (64GB storage model) of RAM, 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, 5-megapixel front-facing camera, 13-megapixel rear-facing camera, and various other bits at price points that fell below expectations.

OnePlus notched 2 million reservations just one week after its unveiling and is projected to see up to 5 million unit sales by the end of the year.
