Samsung Announces Galaxy Core Midrange Android Smartphone
With so much attention being paid to the high-end smartphone market, is anyone paying attention to mid-range and entry-level devices? You betcha. Samsung on Monday introduced the Galaxy Core, a lower-end (by today's standards) handset with a 4.3-inch TFT LCD display (480x800) and 1.2GHz dual-core processor.
Other features include 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage (expandable via a microSD card slot), 5-megapixel rear-facing camera with LED flash, VGA front-facing camera, 802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0, microUSB port, GPS, and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. The device measures 129.3mm by 67.6mm by 8.95mm, weighs 124g, and has an 1,800 mAh battery.
The usual assortment of Samsung software and technologies also come part of the package, including Smart Stay (recognizes when a user is looking at the phone so it knows when to dim the display), Smart Alert, Motion UI (use motion commands to activate common functions), and S Voice.
Depending on the market, a dual-SIM version of the Galaxy Core will be available this month and a single-SIM version in July.
