Samsung Galaxy A10s Brings A 4,000 mAh Battery And Dual Cameras To The Mid-Range Market

Samsung is expanding its Galaxy line of handsets with the Galaxy A10s. Essentially a refresh of the regular Galaxy A10, the new "s" iteration introduces a few key upgrades, chief among them a sizeable bump in battery capacity—the Galaxy A10s features a 4,000 mAh battery for extended run time, up from 3,400 mAh in the regular Galaxy A10.

That amounts to about an 18 percent difference in capacity. How that translates into actual battery life remains to be seen, though Samsung again touts being able to the use the handset "all day, whether you are gaming, streaming, broadcasting live."

The Galaxy A10s retains a 6.2-inch display with a 1520x720 resolution, and it is once again powered by an octa-core processor, though with faster clockspeeds—it sports four 2.0GHz cores and four 1.5GHz cores.

Memory is also the same at 2GB, and so is the storage allotment, with the Galaxy A10s featuring 32GB of internal storage and a microSD card slot. However, a bigger battery and faster clocks are not the only upgrades. The Galaxy A10s gets a rear fingerprint sensor (not an embedded one), which the regular Galaxy A10 lacks, and a better camera arrangement.

Like the previous model, the Galaxy A10s has a 13-megapixel rear camera. However, it gains a second rear shooter, a 2-megapixel depth sensor. This should allow for better Bokeh effects, where subjects are in focus in front of a blurred background.

"The all-new dual camera means brighter, clearer photos, while depth detection intelligently recognizes backgrounds and allows you to add artistic effect to your images," Samsung says.

Samsung also upgraded the front camera from a 5-megapixel shooter to an 8-megapixel sensor for those all-important selfies.

It's a solid refresh overall. As to when it will be available and for how much, Samsung has not yet provided those details. For reference, however, the regular Galaxy A10 launched first in India before heading to the US market, where it sells for around $130. Hopefully the Galaxy A10s will be equally affordable.
