Samsung Galaxy A80 Combines Notchless Slider With Badass Triple Rotating Cameras
For starters, the Galaxy A90 has a massive 6.7-inch Full HD+ (2400x1080) “New Infinity” Super AMOLED Display that is unmarred by any notches or punch hole cutouts (as seen on the Galaxy S10 family). It’s hard to imagine that anyone would actually prefer to have a notch in their display, so this is arguably a superior design from a display perspective. So, how does Samsung handle the selfie camera if there are no notches?
Well, Samsung has decided to adopt a trend that has been used by a few Chinese OEMs like Xiaomi and Oppo – it uses a slider design to reveal the cameras. However, Samsung goes one step further with an automated slider design that powers the back panel upward and rotates the rear-facing cameras so that they are pointing towards the user when a selfie is requested. The automatic rotating camera pod includes a 48MP f/2.0 primary sensor, an 8MP f/2.2 ultrawide sensor and a Time of Flight (ToF) 3D Depth sensor.
Other features are pretty much par for the course for a mid-range phone including an octa-core SoC (dual 2.2GHz cores, six 1.8GHz cores), 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. Interestingly, Samsung has not included a microSD slot on the Galaxy A80. There’s an in-display fingerprint sensor (as found on the Galaxy S10 family) and a capacious 3,700 mAh battery with 25W SuperFast charging support.
Samsung says that the Galaxy A80 will be available in Phantom Black, Angel Gold, and Ghost White when it launches on May 29th. Pricing has not yet been announced for the device, but expect it to be priced well below the Galaxy S10e.
