Samsung Galaxy S8 Active Leak Confirms Full Specs Rundown Prior To Launch

There have been more leaks surrounding details of the Galaxy S8 Active than a submarine with a screen door, or so it seems as of late. Just this past Monday, purported real-life images (i.e., not renders) emerged showing the Galaxy S8 Active sporting a rugged polycarbonate shell. Now here we are at the end of the week with newly leaked slides providing information on the phone's final specification sheet making the rounds on the web.

A user on China's massively popular Weibo microblogging site posted the images. While we have no way of confirming their legitimacy—Samsung isn't likely to comment on these kinds of things—they look like actual promotional materials. Nothing listed stands out as particularly odd or out of place, making us think these are the real deal. Adding to our confidence is that the images of the phone itself look similar to the real deal mentioned above.

According to the supposed promotional materials, the Galaxy S8 Active will have a 5.8-inch Super AMOLED display with a 2960x1440 resolution. That is the same as the regular Galaxy S8, though the Active SKU will not have curved edges. Also like the Galaxy S8, the Galaxy S8 Active will have Gorilla Glass 5 on the front to protect the panel.

The phone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 system-on-chip (SoC) and 4GB of RAM. It will also feature 64GB of onboard storage with a microSD card slot for an additional 256GB, if desired. For taking pictures, there is an 8-megapixel camera on the front and a 12-megapixel on the back, both with f/1.7 aperture.

In addition to be rugged for taking on adventures, the Galaxy S8 Active will have a capacious 4,000 mAh battery pack with fast wireless charging, versus a 3,000 mAh battery inside the Galaxy S8. Battery life is not listed, but the added capacity will come in handy for long treks that take adventurers off the beaten path.

The ruggedness and larger battery pack means the phone will be thicker and heavier the Galaxy S8. Specifically, it will be 9.9mm thick and weigh 208g.
