Samsung Galaxy Tab Active 2 Ruggedized Android Tablet Launches In The U.S.

Samsung has announced that it has launched the Galaxy Tab Active 2 in the U.S. The tablet is ruggedized, making it suitable for people who are hard on electronics or business users who frequently work outdoors. The tablet is designed to function in extreme conditions and offers an integrated LTE modem for connectivity on-the-go. The tablet can be used to access job-specific tasks and software with support for software for asset management or factory automation.

Tab Active 2 is designed to meet MIL-STD-810 for durability, pressure, temperature, vibration and drops. It also has IP68 rating for water and dust resistance. Samsung designed the tablet with physical buttons for operation with work gloves, and the display will work while wet making it usable in rain. The tablet also has a ruggedized S Pen stylus and a user replaceable 4,450 mAh battery to keep you working all day. Charging and data transfer is accomplished with pogo pins on the side of the tablet.
Other hardware specifications include an 8-inch WXGA TFT display with 1280 x 800 resolution. Samsung uses its own Exynos 7870 octa-core 1.6GHz processor inside paired with 3GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage and support for microSD cards up to 256GB. Wi-Fi Direct is integrated along with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, fingerprint scanner, GPS+GLONASS, and several other sensors.

Cameras include a 5MP front unit and an 8MP auto focus rear camera. The front camera also supports facial recognition for biometric access. Corporate IT departments can secure the tablets with Samsung Knox defense-grade security, allowing IT to customize the device for the company. Firmware updates can be performed using Enterprise Firmware Over-the-Air, which allows testing before firmware is deployed widely giving more control over devices for enterprise users with multiple tablets.
