Samsung Galaxy X Folding Flagship Phone Launch Could Come With Jaw-Dropping Price
Apple helped to introduce the smartphone world to more expensive, premium handsets in part, thanks to the launch of the $1,000 iPhone X. Other manufacturers followed right along with Apple and launched their own $1,000 plus flagship devices. Now, rumors are pointing to pricing taking an even higher jump in the high-end smartphone market, once folding devices launch. Samsung is working on a folding smartphone dubbed the Galaxy X, a support page of the device leaked late last year confirming the next Galaxy, a patent app has been seen, and many expected the Galaxy X to surface at CES 2018, but no such luck.
Analysts are now saying that the Galaxy X device is going to launch in 2019 and the impetus behind the launch reportedly is to usher in an era of even larger displays for multitasking, yet allow the product to remain more compact and easy to carry, as well as usable with one hand. The price of such a device may be hard to swallow, however. Analyst Kim Jang-
"Parts affiliates and first-tier subcontractors will begin supplying parts to Samsung Electronics’ handset division beginning in November, at the earliest, with the company assembling the phone aiming for a launch next year," said Park Hyung-woo, another analyst at Shinhan Financial.
With such a massive price, styling, specs, and performance will be key for the success of the Galaxy X. Kim says that the device will sport a gigantic 7.3-inch OLED display and when folded it measures 4.5-inches. Park adds that the device will have a pair of inside panels and one on the surface, with the pair of internal screens combining for a 7.3-inch unit when open. Samsung is on track to build a "true foldable display" according to a company spokesman. Presumably, that means a single large screen able to fold in the middle. Analysts also say that Samsung is very keen to grab the "world's first" title for a foldable device.
