Samsung Leaks Galaxy X Bendable Smartphone Plans With Support Page Slip Up

It's not exactly uncommon for smartphone makers to accidently let slip details on new devices. Samsung has apparently done just this with a support page that was spied on its website for a smartphone model that doesn't yet exist called the SM-G888N0. That support page only lists the model number, but that model number has been associated with the bendable Galaxy X smartphone that we've talked about before.

While the support page gives up nothing about the smartphone, it is a confirmation that the device is in the works. Reports indicate that the SM-G888 device has received various certifications from regulators that would need to checked off on the Galaxy X before launch including Bluetooth SIG, Wi-Fi Alliance, and the South Korean National Radio Research Agency.

It's almost surprising that no real details of this Galaxy X smartphone have been leaked. Most of what we know stems from a Samsung patent that turned up about a year ago showing a traditional bar-shaped smartphone that folds in the middle. That concept art showed a device that left a big gap near the hinge and looks hard to pocket.

We heard back in September that a folding screen Galaxy smartphone was on the Samsung roadmap for 2018. Word of that folding screen roadmap came from Samsung Electronics mobile business head Koh Dong-jin, and he noted the company was aiming for launch next year.

More recently we heard that the folding screen Galaxy X smartphone might turn up at CES 2018, which kicks off in early January. It's surprising that as leaky as Samsung is we haven't seen more specs or details on this device. There has been a report that the smartphone is very complicated and may see a limited launch, with Samsung said to be building 3,000 of the devices initially.
