Samsung Makes Galaxy Tab 3 Family Official with 7, 8 and 10-Inch Versions

The deluge of Samsung Galaxy product announcements continues today with the South Korean device maker debuting three new tablets as part of the Galaxy Tab 3 family. Eschewing the one-size-fits-all approach, Samsung's Galaxy Tab 3 line will be offered in 7-inch, 8-inch, and 10.1-inch form factors beginning July 7, with pre-orders kicking off tomorrow.

"Samsung's industry-leading smartphones, Note devices and tablets address consumers' diverse demands and personal preferences," said Nanda Ramachandran, vice president of emerging business at Samsung Telecommunications America. "The Galaxy Tab 3 portfolio offers consumers more options for tablets that serve as their ultimate smartphone companion, the center of home and on-the-go use, and mobile devices packed with content and services."

Galaxy Tab 3 7.0

The Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 will take on competing tablets like the Nexus 7 with a starting price of $199. Portability is the name of the game in the 7-inch category, though equally intriguing in the bang-for-buck factor. In this case, $199 translates into a dual-core 1.2GHz processor, 1024x600 resolution, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage, microSD card slot, 3MP rear-facing camera, 1.3MP front-facing camera, and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

For those looking to step up in size and performance, the Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 starts at $299 and includes an 8-inch display with a 1280x800 resolution, faster processor (dual-core 1.5GHz), better camera (5MP rear-facing), more RAM (1.5GB), and more built-in storage space (16GB).

Galaxy Tab 3 10.1

Finally, the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 ($399) sports a 10.1-inch display with a 1280x800 resolution, Intel Z2560 dual-core processor clocked at 1.6GHz, 1GB or RAM, and the same storage and camera specs as the 8-inch model. Also unique to the 10.1-inch model is a built-in IR blaster and Samsung's WatchON TV service.

All three will begin shipping in July.
