Samsung’s Flagship Galaxy Note 8: Snapdragon 835 And 6.3-inch Infinity Display Confirmed
Just a few days ago, notorious leaker Evan Blass (otherwise known by his Twitter handle, @evleaks) tweeted out official press renderings of Samsung's forthcoming Galaxy Note 8 handset. At the time, he said that more details would be revealed soon. Making good on that promise, Blass has now revealed a bit more about the phablet, including the fact that it will ship with a 6.3-inch Super AMOLED display.
In our experience, Samsung's Super AMOLED panels are some of the best looking displays around. It is no surprise that the Galaxy Note 8 will wield one, though some may find the actual size a bit of a let down. Not that 6.3 inches is small by any stretch. However, it is not that much larger than the display on the Galaxy S8+, which boasts a 6.2-inch panel.
It will also feature the same display resolution as both the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+, which checks in at 2960x1440, giving the phone an 18.5:9 aspect ratio. The Galaxy Note 8 will be a touch thicker and larger overall, measuring 162.5mm by 74.6mm by 8.5mm. And as with previous Galaxy Note handsets, it will have corners that are more squared off.
Overseas, Samsung will use its own Exynos 8895 system-on-chip (SoC). Here in the US, Qualcomm's peppy Snapdragon 835 chip will power the device. Both SoCs are built on a 10nm FinFET manufacturing process and it's expected that performance will be comparable between the two versions.
Other specs include 6GB of RAM paired with 64GB of internal storage. Users will be able to add more storage with a microSD card. As for taking pictures, the Galaxy Note 8 will feature dual 12-megapixel sensors on the back, including a primary wide-angle sensor with an f1.7 aperture and dual-pixel autofocus, and a telephoto lens with an f2.4 aperture with 2x optical zoom. There will also be an 8-megapixel sensor on the front for selfies.
The 3,300 mAh battery in the Galaxy Note 8 will split the difference between the Galaxy S8 (3,000 mAh) and Galaxy S8+ (3,500 mAh), and like those devices it will be non-removable.
Look for the Galaxy Note 8 to start shipping in September.
