Sharp Debuts New LED-Backlit AQUOS HDTVs

We've hit somewhat of a drought here lately in the world of HDTVs, but Sharp is making sure we're not left to wait any longer for new panels. This week, the company introduced its first-ever AQUOS HDTV with a LED backlight as well as the industry's first 60" LCD HDTV.

The 65-inch LC-65E77UM (64-33/64" Diagonal) and 60-inch LC-60E77UN (60-1/32" Diagonal) AQUOS LCD TVs join the E77 series, and both sport 1080p panels. The each employ Sharp's Advanced Super View (ASV) Superlucent Panel in order to display brighter and crisper images than usual, and the Fine Motion Enhanced technology for 120Hz Frame Rate Conversion keeps things judder-free. The duo also features a 4ms response time, so it should be perfectly suited for gaming and fast-action sports. The all new 65" LC-65E77UM should ship in September for $4499.99, while the 60" LC-60E77UN can be yours during the same month for a thousand dollars less.

Onto the LED backlit sets, the AQUOS LED series includes the 52- (LC-52LE700UN), 46- (LC-46LE700UN), 40- (LC-40E700UN) and 32-inch (LC-32LE700UN), all of which have 1080p X-Gen panels with advanced pixel control for extremely deep black levels. he proprietary AQUOS LED System incorporates Sharp's UltraBrilliant LED backlight technology that illuminates the TV to extremely high brightness and contrast levels, and considering just how great Sharp's AQUOS panels have looked in the past, we suspect the LED models will shine even more. Each one has a 10-bit processing engine, a 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio and a special dejudder feature (on the LC-52LE700UN and LC-46LE700UN) that results in the smooth reproduction of film content. These units pack four HDMI sockets, built-in ATSC/QAM/NTSC TV tuners and a USB port for loading up multimedia externally. The MSRPs for these are listed below.
