Some Apple iPhone 6s And 6s Plus Smartphones Mysteriously Powering Off Without Warning

Apple’s iPhone 6s and 6s Plus were two of the most highly anticipated smartphones to launch so far this year. The excitement surrounding Apple’s new “refresh cycle” flagships was so great that the company reported record first weekend sales, with 13 million devices finding their way to customers.

However, it appears that some of those customers are having a puzzling issue with their brand new iPhones. Owners are reporting that their phones are turning off randomly when left alone — even when the smartphones have sufficient battery remaining to avoid falling into a “no power” coma.

This odd behavior has been picked up by both reddit and the official Apple Support Communities. “New Phone 6s 128GB turned off for no reason the last two nights,” wrote Joachim Frey in an Apple discussion thread. “In the morning you then have to push the power-on button for a long time to get it started.”

“I’ve had my phone since Friday and it has powered off/refused to come out of sleep at least once a day since,” added Todd Sizemore. “I set mine up from scratch so I at least know its not a problem stemming from an iCloud backup.”

Some users have reported that the Home/Touch ID button on the iPhones felt warm to the touch when experiencing the power-off issues and that it takes a longer than expected amount of time to awake the iPhone from its deep sleep.

So far, Apple has not made an official statement regarding the issue, and it appears that those who do contact Apple support are being told to bring their iPhones in to have them looked at. If this is indeed a hardware problem, we have no doubt that Apple will institute rolling hardware updates to stomp out these early production problems. And if it does eventually acknowledge the issue, it will likely say that it’s an isolated problem that affects a “small number of users.”

Apple’s iPhone 6s and 6s Plus feature new 64-bit A9 processors (now with 2GB of RAM), higher resolution front and rear cameras, an improve Touch ID sensor, 3D Touch display, and newfound water resistance.
