Sony: We're Number Two! We're Number Two!

The fight for dominance in the console videogame market has long since devolved into a race for the number two slot. The Nintendo Wii continues to outsell the Playstation 3 and the Xbox 360 combined. Perennial third place finisher Sony might actually find something to smile about in the sales figures for March, at least according to analyst Michael Pachter at Wedbush Morgan.

According to Patcher, the PlayStation 3 sold 365,000 units, while the Xbox 360 ended the race with only 310,000 sold consoles. In the mean time, the Wii is credited to have sold around 700,000 units.

Speaking of Wii, Patcher noted that the company might've been shipping a larger slice of the 1.8 million monthly-made Wii units to Europe, due to the weakening of the US dollar

It's interesting that instead of raising prices in response to fluctuations in currency, the makers simply concentrate on other markets. Also reported are figures for the top selling games. Nintendo's Super Smash Bros. Brawl was the best seller in March with over two million units sold.
