Sony Xperia XZ2 And XZ2 Compact Flagship Phones Leak With Snapdragon 845 Muscle And S Force Audio

Sony's upcoming 2018 Android flagships have been leaking for quite some time, but we're now getting our best look yet at the Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact. We'd give you two guesses as to who leaked these smartphone beauties, but you'll probably only need one guess (it's Evan Blass, of course).

As you might expect from a flagship debuting in 2018, both the Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact are powered by Qualcomm's new 10nm Snapdragon 845 processor. The phones sport an aluminum unibody design, but don’t quite fully embrace the slim top and bottom bezels that are popular with today's flagship smartphones.

When it comes to display size, the Xperia XZ2 measures 5.7 inches, while the Xperia XZ2 Compact lives up to its name at just 5 inches. We must say that we commend Sony for continuing to provide flagship specs in such a small device when the industry is trending towards larger and larger displays. Both smartphones will feature Full HD (1920x1080) screen resolutions.

Other features on tap for the duo include a 19MP, f/1.8 rear camera (4K HDR capable), rear fingerprint sensor (a departure for Sony's typical use of front-mounted fingerprint sensors mounted into the Home button), S Force stereo speakers up front and USB-C connectivity. The Xperia XZ2 packs in a 3,180 mAh battery (which can be charged wirelessly), while the smaller Xperia XZ2 Compact makes do with a 2,870 battery (without wireless charging support).

One other feature that is reserved for the Xperia XZ2 (and not its smaller counterpart) is a haptic feedback system. The haptic feedback is said to sync with vibrations output by the speakers, but we'll have to hear and "feel" this system in action to toss aside our immediate thought of "gimmicky".

The Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact will face a lot of competition in the coming months, especially from the likes of Samsung which will debut its Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ on February 25th at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, Spain. However, for those that want true flagship hardware in a pint-sized package, there likely won't be any competition for the Xperia XZ2 Compact for the foreseeable future.

Both Sony flagships will be unveiled next Monday at MWC and should be available for sale next month.
