Toshiba Rolls Out Second-Gen Chromebooks and 7-inch Windows 8.1 Tablet

The computing world is in something of a frenzy with IFA ongoing in Berlin, and Toshiba's offering up a couple of new items in the wake of that. First up is the Chromebook 2. It's the outfit's second-generation Chromebook, boasting a 13-inch display and two SKUs to choose from. There's a 1080p option as well as integrated Skullcandy audio, with each model boasting a redesigned chassis with a resin lid and a few color options (Charcoal, Aqua and Rose). Chrome OS is onbard, as you'd expect, powered by an Intel Celeron processor, 802.11ac wireless, 2GB/4GB of memory, and a battery good for up to 11.5 hours (HD model)/9 hours (Full HD model).


There's also a USB 2.0 port, a USB 3.0 port, HDMI, SD card slot, a lock slot, and a price tag ranging from $250 to $330. Expect both versions to ship on October 5.


Moving right along, there's the Encore Mini -- a new "value-driven" 7-inch Windows 8.1 tablet that's debuting at just $120. It arrives with a one-year subscription to Office 365, one terabyte of OneDrive storage, and a 12.5-ounce chassis. The 7-inch touch panel boasts a 1024x600 resolution, and it's powered by an Intel Atom CPU. Despite its price, there's still a front-facing webcam, 2MP rear camera, 16GB of internal storage, a microUSB port, and a microSD slot. If you're interested, it's available right now.
