Vivo's Next Phone Will Feature Full Glass Display And Pop-Up Selfie Camera

Smartphone manufacturers are going all-in when it comes to larger displays these days. In the case of devices like the iPhone X and the OnePlus 6, OEMs have taken to minimizing bezels all around and leaving a display notch in the top-center of the display to accommodate the front-facing camera and other sensors.

Vivo, however, is going a different route with its next production smartphone. Vivo's smartphone will have tiny bezels all around and no notch. Well, what about the selfie camera you might ask? Vivo gets around that with a front-facing camera that pops out from the top of the phone. The result is what Vivo reckons will result in a smartphone that will have the world's best screen-to-body ratio.

If you recall, Vivo debuted its Apex concept smartphone back in February and this latest phone appears to be the production version of that device. Vivo is also taking a different approach with the earpiece speaker, forgoing a traditional design in favor or vibrating the entire screen to generate sound. In addition, Vivo adopts an in-display fingerprint reader in place of a front-mounted home button or rear-mounted sensor.

We won't have to wait long to see this smartphone in the flesh; Vivo says that it will debut on June 12th at an event held in Shanghai. As with Vivo's other products, this one likely won't make its way to the United States, although we can only hope that similar "true" all-display design makes it stateside to rid of us unsightly notches. We already know that at least one such phone is on the way in the form of the Lenovo Z5.
