Walmart To Sell Nintendo NES Classic Edition For A Few Minutes Each Day Through November 18th
The holiday shopping season isn't even in full swing yet though it looks like we already know what one of the hottest selling items will be: Nintendo's pint sized NES Classic Edition. Demand is red hot for the miniature version of the most popular game consoles of all time, and that's led to inflated price tags on eBay and through third-party sellers. Don't give in. Walmart is making available a limited number of NES Classic Edition consoles each day through the end of the work week.
Like the handful of other vendors hawking the classic console, Walmart quickly sold out of its inventory at $60 a pop. Some of the sites selling the NES Classic Edition even buckled under the tremendous demand for the 8-bit throwback. That was the case with Amazon, which left many shoppers who had the console in their shopping cart but unable to complete their order feeling disgruntled. Best Buy, GameStop, and Target also received inventory and sold out instantly. This prompted Nintendo to promise a "steady flow" of new shipments.
"The NES Classic Edition system is a hot item, and we are working hard to keep up with consumer demand," Nintendo stated on Twitter. "There will be a steady flow of additional systems through the holiday shopping season and into the new year. Please contact your local retailers to check availability."
There's no need to check with Walmart because it confirmed on Facebook through its Gamecenter account that it is getting more NES Classic Edition consoles in and will make a limited number available everyday through Friday, November 18, at precisely 2 PM Pacific (5 PM Eastern). It's a safe bet these will sell out just as fast, but taking a shot at grabbing one for $60 sure beats paying third-party street prices, which have been as high as $1,000.
The NES Classic Edition is a much smaller version of the original 1980s version. It comes with 30 built-in classic games, an NES controller, and even an HDMI cable for connecting it to modern day HDTVs. Extra controllers run $10 each.
