Western Digital 1TB Gaming Drive Accelerated SSD Levels Up Xbox One Storage

Your Xbox One may not be easily portable, but that does not mean your games can’t be. Western Digital just announces its Gaming Drive Accelerated SSD for the Xbox One. The portable SSD allows players to store more games and load them more quickly.

The Western Digital (WD) Gaming Drive Accelerated SSD is available in 500GB and 1TB capacities. The 1TB allows users to store up to 25 games. Both versions reportedly load games 50 percent at 400 MB/s read speeds. The SSD is compatible with the Xbox One S and Xbox One X and relies on a USB 3.0 connection.

Most importantly, the SSD is portable. It measures 5 X 4 X 1.3 inches (127 X 101.6 X 33.03 millimeters) and weighs 0.2379 pounds (roughly 124.24 grams). Western Digital claims that the SSD can easily fit into your pocket. The SSD also includes a “rubber-bumper framing” and three-year warranty for extra protection and peace of mind.

Western Digital released a number of new SSDs this past winter. Its WD Black Gaming SSD is available in capacities up to 2TB and is focused on gaming. The 1TB model delivers sequential reads/writes of 3470MB/sec and 3000MB/sec respectively. The 2TB version is available for $499.99. WD also added a Gaming Mode to their SSD dashboard so that gamers can disable any undesirable features.

Their WD Blue SN500 NVMe SSD is intended for editors, content creators, and gamers. The SSD only delivers sequential read and write speeds of up to 1700MB/sec and 1450MB/sec, but it is much less expensive than other SSD options. It is available in 250GB and 500GB capacities for $54.99 and $77.99.

It will be interesting to see whether or not WD will also create a portable SSD for the upcoming Xbox Project Scarlett. Project Scarlett has been touted as one “cool-looking” new console and will be available by the end of 2020. For now, you can purchase the 500GB Gaming Drive Accelerated SSD for $119.99 USD and the 1TB version for $219.99 USD at select retailers.
