X Marks The Spot: 5-inch OnePlus X Pegged For October 12th Unveil
Hot on the heels of the OnePlus 2 launching to the public is the impending release of what's been dubbed the OnePlus X, the third smartphone from the spunky startup that's looking to disrupt the mobile market as you know it. That name hasn't been officially confirmed, though a posting on a Chinese social media site by a company executive teases the OnePlus X moniker.
The OnePlus executive posted a screenshot of the new device to Weibo, a highly popular microblogging site in China that's a cross between Twitter and Facebook. The screenshot shows a map with four lines form a giant "X" in the middle. That's not exactly an official confirmation, but it does show that OnePlus is at least aware of what people are calling its upcoming handset.

OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei stated this past summer that the company's next phone model would release by the end of the year. However, the unveiling is probably going to happen sooner -- much sooner. As in October 12 (this Monday), the day OnePlus is scheduled to hold a media event in India (it's been sending out invitations to members of the press).
Pei indicated that OnePlus isn't looking to win a specs war with its next handset. Instead, it's taking aim at people who buy phones for their design. That said, there are some rumored specifications making the rounds, starting with a 5-inch Full HD 1080p (1920x1080) display.
The OnePlus X is also said to feature a 64-bit MediaTek MT6795 SoC (64-bit octa-core 2.2GHz CPU and 700MHz PowerVR G6200 GPU), 2GB of LPDDR3 RAM, 32GB of eMMC storage, 5MP front camera, 13MP rear camera, 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, USB Type-C connector, 3,000 to 3,100mAh battery, and either Android 5.1.1 Lollipop or Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
Pricing is expected to be around $250.
