Xiaomi Teases Its First Aerial Drone Ahead Of May 25th Reveal

Xiaomi is such a tease. MIUI forum moderator “Nanana” intimated that a Mi Drone is “flying to town on May 25th”.

The hint stated, “The surprise doesn't just end here. Something wonderful and cool is flying to us very soon. A Bamboo-copter? In China, it's the earliest flying toys consisted of feathers at the end of a stick, which was rapidly spun between the hands and released into flight. Shall we discover the world with Mi- ?”

Patent sketches for the Mi Drone were released in 2015, but were quickly dropped because they closely resembled the DJI done. According to the patent, the drone was 350mm long and could be controlled by a Mi Band fitness tracker. Sketches for the most recent Mi Drone have not yet been released.

Xiaomi Inc. is a Chinese electronics company best known for making smartphones and other smart devices, having recently launched the Mi Max and MUIU 8 on May 10th. The company has also been actively recruiting users to test out its MIUI Global ROM.

The company recently started working with Google to market the Mi Box, a television device, to the United States. The Mi Box runs on the latest Android TV 6.0 and will include content from YouTube, Sling TV, Netflix, Vudu, and Fandango NOW. Xiaomi is also one of Google’s first Android partners to make Daydream-ready devices. Daydream is Google’s platform for high-performance mobile VR built and is built on top of Android N.

Xiaomi was the world's 5th largest smartphone maker in 2015. It sold 70.8 million units and counted for almost 5 percent of the smartphone global market share. Xiaomi became the largest cell phone vendor in China in 2014. They employ 8,100 employees in China, Malaysia, Singapore, India, Indonesia, Brazil, and the Philippines.
