Camera Performance and Battery Life
The Motorola Droid Turbo 2 and Droid Maxx 2 sport 5MP front and 21MP rear cameras. If you’re a photography buff, you’ll be happy know that the rear camera has an f/2.0 aperture, which makes the camera capable of taking quality shots faster. In our testing, the rear cameras on both phones handled well. The camera app supports tap-to-shoot, and choosing focus points is easy: you can put your finger on the part of the picture that should be the focal point, then drag a slider to adjust the exposure before you take the shot. You can also switch between widescreen (16.1MP; 16;9) and standard (21MP; 4:3) photos.
Turbo 2
The Droid Turbo 2 has a dual LED flash on the rear camera and even includes a flash on the front camera-the better to take selfies with, of course. The Maxx 2’s rear camera features a dual CCT flash and adjusts the flash automatically based on the amount of light in the shot. And like the Turbo 2, it has HDR support, which can make for clearer, more vibrant pictures.

Both phones offer video capture, but at different resolutions. The Turbo 2 has the most options, including HD (1080p), SloMo (720p) and Ultra HD (4K). The Maxx 2 offers HD (1080p) and SloMo (540p).
We were able to get good quality shots with both cameras. If you’re shooting without the flash, you’ll find that low-light situations can be difficult, but both actually handled indoor shots better than some devices we’ve tested recently.

Motorola claims that the phones can handle 48 hours of mixed use on a single charge, so we put the phones through two battery life tests. These tests are fairly demanding (particularly AnTuTu), so we expected the batteries to give out long before the 48-hour mark. Still, the tests give us good reference points for comparing the phones to similar devices we’ve tested recently.
Interestingly, the Maxx 2 took the lead in our Web browsing testing. Both phones took the top spots in our comparison pool, unseating the previous champ, the Samsung Galaxy Note 5. That’s 11 hours and 54 minutes of Web browsing for the Maxx 2. Of course, the Turbo 2 looks good in this test, too: it held out for 11 hours and 38 minutes.
Things changed when we fired up AnTuTu, however. In this strenuous, worst-case test condition, the Droid Turbo 2 burned up energy much faster than previous tests. That said, the Droid Turbo 2 lasted as long as the Droid Maxx 2 in our own use and in the Web browsing test.
