Acer Announces Nitro 5 Mainstream GeForce 10-Powered Gaming Laptop And 11.6-inch Spin 1 Convertible

Computex is kicking off this week and Acer is joining in on the festivities with the announcement of two new mobile products. For those looking for a gaming laptop that won’t burst your budget, the company has announced its new Nitro 5 series.

Acer says that the 15.6-inch Nitro 5 is aimed at casual gamers, and can be outfitted with Kaby Lake Intel Core i5 and Core i7 processors. Given its lower positioning on Acer’s mobile gaming totem pole, your graphics options max out with an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti (which is still no slouch when it comes to 1080p gaming).

If you prefer to get your primary motivation from AMD silicon, you can also choose from A-Series FX, A12 or A10 APUs. Likewise, these processors can be configured with Radeon RX550 graphics.

No matter which processor family you select, you can option the Nitro 5 series with up to 32GB of DDR4 2400 memory, up to a 512GB PCIe SSD and up to a 2TB HDD. We should also mention that the 15.6-inch IPS display has a resolution of 1920x1080 and you’ll find features like Dolby Audio Premium and Acer TrueHarmony sound tech, red keyboard backlighting, Acer Coolboost tech (via two system fans), 802.11ac Wi-Fi, one HDMI 2.0, one USB 3.1 Type-C, one USB 3.0 and two USB 2.0 ports.

The Nitro 5 series will become available in the United States in July with a starting price of $799.

If mobile versatility is your forte, then Acer has also introduced the new Spin 1 2-in-1 convertible. The Spin 1 features a small 11.6-inch form-factor and a lightweight metal chassis (2.76 pounds).

The Spin 1 isn’t exactly a powerhouse machine, as it can be configured with either Intel Pentium or Celeron processors, up to 4GB of DDR3L memory and up to 128GB of eMMC storage. The touch display is surprisingly sharp for its size, featuring a resolution of 1920x1080 and viewing angles of 178 degrees. Other features include 8 hours of battery life, 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, one USB 3.1 port, one USB 2.0 port, a single HDMI port and a microSD (SDXC) reader.

The Spin 1 lands in the United States in July with a base price of $329.
