Amazon Now Offering Whole Foods Free 2-Hour Delivery For Prime Now Members

Amazon is kicking off a two-hour grocery delivery service through its Whole Foods subsidiary, the company announced today. The two-hour delivery window applies to Prime Now customers living in Austin, Cincinnati, Dallas, and Virginia Beach who order $35 or more worth of groceries from Whole Foods. The delivery service is free as part of Prime Now, or customers can pay $7.99 on eligible orders to have the delivery time cut in half to one hour.

"We're happy to bring our customers the convenience of free two-hour delivery through Prime Now and access to thousands of natural and organic groceries and locally sourced favorites," said John Mackey, Whole Foods Market co-founder and CEO. "Together, we have already lowered prices on many items, and this offering makes Prime customers’ lives even easier."

Through the Prime Now app, customers can shop thousands of grocery store items across fresh and organic produce, bakery, dairy, meat and seafood, floral, everyday goods, and other locally sourced items. Customers can even order some alcoholic beverages and have it delivered through Prime Now.

The delivery service is available from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM local time. Assuming the initial trial goes well, Amazon plans to expand delivery of Whole Foods goods across the United States this year, though Amazon did not say which other cities would be next in line. Whole Foods, which was founded nearly four decades ago, has over 470 locations combined in the US, Canada, and United Kingdom.

Amazon acquired Whole Foods in a blockbuster deal last year in which it paid $13.7 billion for the supermarket chain. The plan was to keep the Whole Foods branding intact, while leveraging the chain's wide footprint to expand beyond its dominant position in the online space, and to bolster its efforts in delivering groceries.
