Apple’s 10th Anniversary iPhone 8 With OLED Display Could Top $1,000
Diamonds are the traditional tenth anniversary gift, but Apple reportedly has a little something different up its sleeve. Apple is planning on releasing a tenth anniversary iPhone 8 with an OLED display and it will likely cost upward of $1,000 USD.
The 5.7-inch iPhone 8 (or iPhone X) will likely look quite different than its predecessors. It is believed that the iPhone 8 will be composed of stainless steel, instead of pricier aluminum. The back of the iPhone 8 may also be made of glass instead of metal (like its iPhone 4 and iPhone 4s predecessors). Apple has been working to remove the physical Home button and relocate it underneath the display surface. There is even a slight chance that Apple will remove the side buttons on the iPhone and replace them with touch-sensitive inlays in the metal. It is also possible that there will be a 4.7-inch model (iPhone 7s) and a 5.5-inch model ( iPhone 7s Plus).

The biggest rumor is that the iPhone 8 will feature an OLED display. Apple has been gobbling up as much capacity from available OLED manufacturers as possible in preperation. Samsung and a handful of other Asian upstarts are currently the only manufacturers who produce OLED displays. The iPhone 8 would receive the OLED display, however, the smaller-screened phones would be stuck with LCD displays.
Apple has also allegedly been working with Lumentum on 3D sensing technology, but it is currently unclear how this technology would be applied. Some believe that the technology would be used for facial recognition, while others surmise that it would be use to improve the effective resolution of the the dual lens camera. Intel’s 7480 LTE modems might be incorporated into some of the iPhones, while others may include modems from Qualcomm. Also expect to see a larger battery compared to current generation iPhones.
Production for the iPhone 8 will likely begin this spring, while the announcement will come in the autumn.
