Dell Intros 12.1" Vostro 1220 Ultraportable

Dell's Vostro lineup never has been flashy. Instead, it has relied on an all-business approach that keeps costs down, style at a minimum and specs decent. The latest in the family, the Vostro 1220, follows right in line by offering a decent array of specifications at a price that's certainly respectable.

The 12.1" ultraportable is tailor made for those who can't quite see themselves using a minuscule netbook. According to Dell, the laptop was designed exclusively for business travelers who are unwilling to compromise performance, battery life and security for a thin and lightweight design. The unit itself can be ordered in Obsidian Black or Deep Cherry Red, and it weighs in at just 3.36 pounds.

As for specs, you'll find a Core 2 Duo CPU, up to 9 hours of battery life on a 6-cell pack, pre-installed videoconferencing software, a fingerprint reader, 802.11 Draft-N Wi-Fi, optional Mobile Broadband, 2GB to 4GB of DDR2 RAM, 160GB to 320GB HDD, Intel's X4500MHD integrated graphics, a 1.3MP webcam, Windows Vista Home Basic and a 1-year warranty. The machine gets going at $799, but that configuration includes a lowly Celeron 900 (2.2GHz) processor. The Core 2 Duo models start at $899, and all of the builds are available to order today.
