Dell tops estimates; sees cost declines slowing

Dell reported a 46% profit increase in its latest results Thursday, topping estimates - but it also indicated that future cost declines would slow, which could indicate problems to come for the beleaguered company.
Dell, like competitors Hewlett-Packard Co and Apple Inc, profited from lower costs for computer components amid a supply glut. HP, the top PC maker by market share, also suggested this month that component cost reductions may slow.
Dell's challenges are not over.  Remember that it still has to deal with the fallout from the audit it performed earlier this month, which involved executives "cooking the books."
