From Galaxy S10 To Galaxy F, Here's What To Expect From Samsung's Unpacked Event
Instead of months or even weeks, we are now down to just a handful of days until Samsung hosts its 2019 Unpacked event, in which the company will introduce several new products. The big reveal, of course, will be the Galaxy S10. Samsung has not been shy about making that known ahead of time, and has even begun taking reservations (not pre-orders). But as a whole, what do we expect from the event? Let's dive in.
Starting with the Galaxy S10, we know it is coming, and even the banner for the Unpacked event has a giant "10" on it. That is only part of the story, though. More specifically, leaks and rumors point to there being three primary Galaxy S10 models, including the 5.8-inch Galaxy S10e (formerly known as the Galaxy S10 Lite), a 6.1-inch Galaxy S10, and the 6.4-inch Galaxy S10+.
All three are expected to debut with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor underneath the hood for the US models, and Samsung's own Exynos 9820 SoC in the international variants. At the top end, the highest-end configuration will be a Galaxy S10+ with 12GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. Rumor has it that particular configuration could end up being a limited edition SKU. Available options will look like this:
- Galaxy S10+: 6GB RAM + 128GB storage, 8GB RAM + 512GB storage, 12GB RAM + 1TB storage
- Galaxy S10: 6GB RAM + 128GB storage, 8GB RAM + 512GB storage
- Galaxy S10e: 6GB RAM + 128GB storage
The new Galaxy S10 handsets will also feature full-front displays. Instead of a notch or bezel, Samsung is going with a punch-hole design for the front-facing camera, placed in the upper-right corner. There could also be an in-display fingerprint reader. Around back, the Galaxy S10e will wield dual cameras, and the Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+ will both sport a triple camera arrangement, all with LED flash.
It's also been rumored that the Galaxy S10 will be support reverse wireless charging. For example, users will be able to plop a set of wireless earbuds on the back of the Galaxy S10, and the phone will charge them. Tying into that, a recent Galaxy Wearable app update tipped the launch of new Galaxy Buds, which Samsung may throw in as a bonus to people who pre-order the Galaxy.
On the topic of wearables, Samsung is expected to unveil its Galaxy Watch Active, which appears to be the Galaxy Watch Sport that leaked earlier this month. It will have a 40mm case and will ship in at least two color options, but will lack a rotating bezel. If previous leaks hold true, the Galaxy Watch Active will run on Tizen. It may also end up with 4GB of RAM and various monitors, including a sleep monitor, heart rate monitor, an activity tracker, and other fitness-related sensors.
Samsung is also prepping two new fitness bands, the Galaxy Fit and Galaxy Fit e. It is not yet clear what differences exist between the two models. In fact, there's not much we know about these new devices at all, beyond the model names.
Finally, Samsung is expected to roll out a folding smartphone called the Galaxy F. Seemingly confirmed last month, Samsung more recently posted a teaser on Twitter, saying "the future of mobile will unfold on February 20, 2019."
The Galaxy F will serve as both a smartphone when folded, and a mini tablet when opened up. Details are rather sparse, though back in November, there was a prototype shown with an Infinity Flex display measuring 7.3 inches with a 2152x1535 resolution. The Galaxy F is expected to wield a secondary 4.58-inch display panel on the outside with a 1960x840 resolution. We also anticipate it will be powered by a Snapdragon 855 or 845 processor.
