Galaxy S6 Reportedly Contains Less Samsung App Bloat, More Microsoft Apps And Services
Based on all the rumors and speculation, the Galaxy S6 is shaping up to be one of the more exciting Galaxy launches in Samsung's history. For about the past eight months, leaked information has been coming in fast and steady, covering both the hardware and software side of things. Towards the latter, it's been rumored that Samsung is planning to remove most TouchWiz bloat from the Galaxy S6, and now we're hearing that the handset will include more Microsoft services.
Citing one of its insiders, SamMobile says one of the biggest changes to the Galaxy S6 will be the removal of all pre-installed Samsung apps. Not a few, not a bunch, but all of them. We're a bit skeptical of that claim, especially when it comes to things like S Voice, S Health, S Note, and so forth, though if that's the case, Galaxy S6 owners who want to use those tools should be able to nab them from the Galaxy Apps store.
In place of Samsung's own software will be a collection of Microsoft apps. These will include Microsoft OneNote, OneDrive, Office Mobile, and Skype. Galaxy S6 owners will also receive a free Office 365 subscription.
This could be a win-win situation for the two companies. Microsoft doesn't have much of a footprint in the mobile phone space, and by bundling its apps onto one of the most popular Android devices, it could still get its software into the hands of millions of users despite Windows Phone's low market share.
