Huawei Mate 9 Makes U.S. Debut January 6th With Amazon Alexa Integration
Americans, get your wallets ready. Huawei just revealed that its Mate 9 smartphone will be available in the United States starting tomorrow, January 6th. The Mate 9 is the first smartphone to directly include Amazon’s Alexa. Users can ask Alexa questions or control smart home features with just their voice. Existing Mate 9 users will receive an over-the-air update with the functionality.
The Mate 9 features a Kirin 960 SoC, the first to include a ARM Cortex-A73/A53 Octa-core CPU and Mali G71 Octa-core GPU. The CPU supposedly consumes 15 percent less power than its competitors while the GPU gives a 180 percent performance uplift and a 40 percent improvement in energy efficiency compared its predecessors. The chipset also incorporates machine learning in order to “make the phone smarter”.
If battery life is your main concern, the Mate 9 includes a 4000 mAh high-density battery, which can provide up to two days worth of power. The Mate 9 also supports 5A fast charging with its new SuperCharge technology. Ten minutes of charging is good for two movies, while twenty minutes of charging provides a full day of power.
The Mate 9 also introduces EMUI 5.0. This is a skin for the Android operating system that Huawei says improves the phone’s aesthetics and functionality. EMUI 5.0 learns a user’s behavior patterns in order to produce a smoother, more intuitive experience. More than 50 percent of the phone’s functionalities can be reached in two clicks, while 90 percent can be reached in three.

The Mate 9 contains a Leica dual lens camera with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and the world’s first dual-camera pixel-binning technology. The camera incorporates Hybrid Zoom and a 4-1 Hybrid Auto-focus. The auto-focus uses laser focus, phase detection focus, depth focus, and contrast focus to improve picture quality.
To top it all off, the Mate 9 includes 4 Level Fingerprint identification and an encrypted file safe. All of this can be accessed with one fingerprint. Users can even be extra safe and add two fingerprints to enter into two privacy spaces.
