Lenovo Unleashes Thinner, Lighter ThinkPad X1 Carbon And X1 Yoga With 8th Gen Core
Starting off with the ThinkPad X1 Carbon, it is now even thinner than the 6th generation model, coming in at 14.95 mm thick; it's also lighter at just 2.46 pounds. Lenovo has spruced things up a bit along the exterior with a new carbon fiber weave pattern that is equal parts cool and professional. If you prefer, you can also opt for the staid "ThinkPad Black" that has been a constant figure in the ThinkPad family of devices.
As before, you'll find a 14-inch display which is available in Full HD or WQHD resolutions. There's also a UHD HDR option with a 500 nits brightness rating for those that like the content on their screens to really "pop" with color. Backing up the display is Intel's integrated UHD graphics, which are made possible by 8th generation Intel Core processors. Those processors can be paired with either 8GB or 16GB of LPDDR3 memory.
Rounding out the 7th generation ThinkPad X1 Carbon is up to a 2TB NVMe PCIe SSD, Dolby Atmos sound system, four far-field microphones (for onboard Amazon Alexa support), two USB 3.1 Gen 2 ports, two Thunderbolt 3 ports, Windows Hello camera (with ThinkShutter) and a 51 WHr battery that provides up to 15 hours of battery life.
The 4th generation ThinkPad X1 Yoga 2-in-1 convertible has been enhanced with a new CNC-machined aluminum chassis (in Iron Grey), and now weighs just 3.07 pounds. According to Lenovo, the new device has a 17 percent smaller footprint than its predecessor along with 11 percent smaller display bezels. Speaking of the display, you'll find the dame display options as the new ThinkPad X1 Carbon including the 10-bit 4K HDR panel.
Other specifications are largely the same as the ThinkPad X1 Carbon, albeit the Yoga model only has one USB 3.1 Gen 2 port (the other is Gen 2). Likewise, it shares the same 51 WHr battery with a 15-hour runtime (according to MobileMark 2014 benchmarks).
To complement these new ThinkPad models is the ThinkVision P44W display, which measures 43.4 inches diagonally. It is a borderless business-class display with a 32:10 aspect ratio, HDR400 certification and a lofty 144Hz refresh rate with AMD FreeSync support.
The ThinkPad X1 Carbon and ThinkPad X1 Yoga will be available in June priced at $1,709.99 and $1,929.99 respectively. The ThinkVision P44W Monitor will be available in April priced at $1,299.
