Motorola Confirms Moto Z2 Force With ShatterShield On Deck For July 25th Debut

We know that Motorola has a Moto Z2 Force flagship in the works, and it was widely expected that the smartphone would make its debut at the July 25th #hellomotoworld event. However, Motorola all but confirmed those suspicions with an official invite that was sent out for the event.

The invite shows two smartphones with cracked screens, surround by broken glass. The tagline “get ready to shatter your expectations” more than confirms that this is reference to the Moto Z2 Force. If you recall, the original Moto Z Force came with ShatterShield technology for the simply. ShatterShield is comprised of the following five design features:

  • Rigid aluminum core which provides structural rigidity and robustness
  • Flexible AMOLED display to absorb shocks, drops
  • Dual touch layers provide a failsafe in case one is damaged during a fall
  • Interior lens acts as a protect shield that is impervious to cracking
  • Exterior lens provides protection from “normal wear and tear”

Given its status as the flagship of the Motorola’s smartphone family, the Moto Z2 Force will come with some rather stout hardware. The smartphone will incorporate a 5.5-inch QHD display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, dual rear cameras, and at least 64GB of internal storage. It is also said to supports 1Gbps LTE speeds even though achieving such speeds in the U.S. market won’t be possible for quite some time.

Unlike recently released flagships phones, i.e. the Samsung Galaxy S8 and LG G6, the Moto Z2 Force will not have an edge-to-edge display due to constraints imposed by support for Moto Mods. Motorola would be unable to support a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor (like on the Galaxy S8), while still retaining support for Moto Mods. And so far, no Android manufacturer has successfully integrated an in-screen fingerprint sensor, although Qualcomm will begin sampling parts during the fourth quarter of 2017.

The Moto Z2 Force will be joined at the July 25th event by the Moto G5S Plus and the Moto X4.
